I used the same motors however I kept the original wheels have a look here in this forum for some of my build photos :)

You read my mind that is just the route I have thought about taking.
Yes there is an Arduino nano in each light tower a relay and a infa red receiver
We should compare plans sometime...

The Arduino Nano is there to process the command form the infrared remote control.
You can switch the left or right lights and the beacon on the...
