Re: Solidworks help... Track pad

Select a face to put cuts or bosses on and then click the view normal to button (looks like an upward arrow with a wide flat base. Then click on new sketch, draw the shape, then cut or boss it up. If...

Re: Possible Solution For Tracked Equiptment

Shouldn't all the grouser bars be tapered a bit, I think that's how the real ones are.

Re: Taps and dies... source/type?

Myself, I have never liked the taps that come in the kits and prefer to build my own set.

If using cut style taps I highly recommend getting ones with spiral points, sometimes called gun taps. I...

Re: Possible Solution For Tracked Equiptment

I agree, if doing aluminum 6061 is probably best bet. Depending on cost, I would probably opt for hard anodizing to get some wear resistance at least for the track pads. Not sure how my anodizer...

Re: Possible Solution For Tracked Equiptment

I may have thought of a cheaper way to start them. Probably still out of aluminum but could be 7075 or 6061 material and hard anodized. If you guys can figure out a common pitch (or 2) and let me...

Re: Possible Solution For Tracked Equiptment

Same principle could be used for aluminum track pads. I work with an aluminum extrusion shop on some parts. A die that size and profile would probably cost me around $2k by the time I got the first...

Re: pump question ....

Should work, but the little one will have less force than the servo applies on the black one. But will travel farther. If they were same size than servo force would equal dump cyl force and travels...

Re: pump question ....

Centrifugal style pumps are good for moving fluid from one point to another, positive displacement pumps are good for creating pressure and transferring energy.

Re: pump question ....

Need 2 to create a pressure zone. A one rotating piece pump would be like a vane pump that has vanes that float in and out to seal and make the pressure zone.

Can also look at gerotar style pumps,...

Re: I want 1

The Mazak is nice, I'd rather have a Mori NTX on my floor. Of course I'd want one with the built in 3d cam package on the machine controller too.... I'd probably settle for an upgrade to my current...

Re: Anybody Remeber These?

Good ole speed controller. Wasn't there then a big resistor (for braking maybe?) that was in the circuit with that somewhere? I remember the resistor getting hot, I burned a couple of them up.

Re: "Conversational" programming vs full cnc

I like to use both. For simple stuff like drilling the conversational is so easy and fast to just fill in the blanks and enter it in the program. I usually program out contours just as i like to be...

Re: Machinist opinions

I agree, I would look around for something just a tad bigger than the mini lathes. My dad got one several years ago and I hate it, to me it is just not what a small lathe should be and doesn't cut...

I had thought bout making them but have gotten so busy with other work in the shop I haven't been able to even look at simple hose barbs since the initial ones I made.

Re: 990 cat loader

Oh yeah, that small might be tough to find. I pretty much only use them for over 1/2", all pipe threads and specials. Makes the best sealing pipe threads :D

So far best pics I can find are here at 1:08...

Re: 990 cat loader

Looking good Steve.

Research parametric programming (subroutines and loop calls) could probably do all them holes in a program a dozen lines of code long ;) assuming your control can do subs,...

Re: Scale Weight of Equipment

Your math is flawed slightly. Weight is a function of volume not area.

So a 1/14 scale model should be 1/(14 cubed) or 1/2744. This would make a 100k lb real world equipment equal 36.44 scale...

Re: A question about turning aluminium

Thinking you probably got brazed carbide tools which are just flat topped. They suck for alum, grind up some hss blanks with a nice little nose radius and high rake angle, extra sharp and polished a...

Re: D8R +463 in 1/5,6

There is an equalizer walking beam bar between the track fronts with a pivot point under middle of main body frame. Can be seen in reply #68 of this thread a little bit.
