Sounds fine to me.
I sometimes grind a purpose made tool for a particular job, a tool that does exactly want i want to achieve. i have a special tool to turn the sheaves for my LTM1800.

It is a differential and the purpose is to divide the power between the rear 2 axles and the front 2 axles. This way it will have permanent 8 wheel drive.
