Re: 1/25 truck shop & diorama

A lot of the stuff is scratchbuilt, including the air compressor, drill press against the wall by the fan, some of the shelves, jack stands, oil dispenser, hoist, work table. Other stuff was used...

Re: Another Unit Crane

Anybody who would cut up a vintage toy, especially a crane, and power it up with RC stuff...is OK in my book! I love this stuff! Dan

Re: 1/25 6 Axle Lattice Crane

Thank you, gent's!

Hey, Sonoran... Enjoying 70 degree weather? You did catch a goodly dose of that cold spell, didn't ya? Not that I'd wish it on anyone, but they had snow in SF!

Re: Manitowoc 4100W 1/25

Yeah... Man, I'm blown away here. This, I have not seen. Do you have any pictures of the build in progress? I'd like to see how the tracks were made, and where did you get the drive chain for them?...

Re: LTM 1030 update

Ken, (and others following) I googled the crane numbers to see what we're looking at. Here's a link:

Re: 1/25 6 Axle Lattice Crane

OK, I've been busy working on the crane, then we got a break in the weather, so I kinda slacked off. but here's what I'd been up to. In order to make straight accurate boom sections, a better way was...

Re: 1/25 truck shop & diorama

Thanks for the replies. The floor does have more stains than do show up in these pictures. The walls could use some too, but there are a few.

I like working features, and being able to access the...

1/25 truck shop & diorama

I know it says 1/16, but bear with me, I think I have something to share just the same. The techniques would work as well in larger scales.

Here's an overall view of the diorama....

Re: Another Unit Crane

I'm just catching up with the action here. Cranes are always cool in my book.

You might look into braided silk fishing line on eBay. I use it on my 1'25 crane, but it is strong enough for larger...

Re: 1/25 6 Axle Lattice Crane

Thank you, Ken. The springs are K&S Brass, curved to look like springs. The "leafs" (leaves?) are simply soldered together. The springs themselves don't flex, but the equalizers in the front end do...

Re: 1/25 6 Axle Lattice Crane

Yes, I do clean up my joints before soldering. Fit isn't so much the problem, as sometimes I get too much solder in or near the joint, and have to file it away. Overheating a joint can certainly lead...
