Thor-I only cut aluminum on my bandsaw and I think they need really good blades to cut steel. If the blade is pushing off the wheels sounds like you are using too much pressure.

Thor-If you can adjust the length of your drive belt, you could put a smaller pulley on the motor. This would be a simple way. Installing a slower motor would probably cost more than the original...
