The short one, is what is required. The spacer allows the teeth to mesh when lowered. You can use the bronze bearings (small ones) or a number of the cardboard ones that comes with the motors, I made about six. I am almost sure there is a thread on the forum somewhere, by Tamiya cowboy, I got all the input i needed from him.
Ps: I had a few spacers made since. If your in the UK send me your addy, I'll send you one for free.
