Would it be too hard on tools to do it from steel?

I have nearly 11lbs of counterweight on the 850 and there are times it's not enough.

How far back from center is your counterweight? I'll measure mine to compare.
right now I got 13"+ to the back of the counter weight at 6Lbs I could make the bottom 1/5 in steel . That'll add as much if not more then what the 990 has . the 990's solid is around 12 lbs but I hollowed it out a bunch . I could've gone steel , but the wait will be forever till I get back on steel cutting since most the parts I do are in aluminum and the scrap yard does not like it mixed .

:edit: I'm finding it hard to believe only 6 lbs it feels much heavier . It has about the same cubic inch volume as a 20 lb sledge and feels about half .
