I have had some folks asking what I use for roller chain and pads on my models. This is the setup I use... 8 foot lengths of carpet rail from Home-Depot 7/8 wide to make the pads

Flip it upside down and bend it on the first tab..

Roller chain is # 35 with K1 on every second link. When I order the chain it comes in a minumin lenghts of 12 feet...

Great use of local materials Greg. Do your track pads work well compared to Lou's - doesn't he have some molded plastic ones?

Neil the motor has three mounting holes on the front. Use a plate on those holes and then attach to the track frames.

I use Servocity mounts to attach to the sprocket.

Yes Lou has the molded ones, we have had a pushing contest and my D8 has the upper hand. My pads cut into the dirt rather than float on the top. I would dig a deep hole very fast if I ran up agaist something the D8 could not push. Also the motor I use are 400 oz in per side on 18 volts 25 rpm. Nothing slows them down ! ! !

This was going to be a project down the road with the 400 oz in motors, it would be a tight fit with a pump and spools. I think if a person didn't make the blade 6way, but only up and down I think there would be enough room for the spools for the grapple, boom, and one for the blade..

Sounds good Fred I think you should build it.

A person could also build it all electric I think. I once used servos on my KMC track skidder to operate the boom and grapple, I have to say it works GREAT. I took the centring system out of the servo so that it would turn endless, worked great for winch drums...

Here's my idea on that. Use a 3 spool valve with a second valve to switch between the blade and the grapple functions. You shouldn't really need to use both at the same time. What do you think?

I just picked up a bunch of aluminum flatbar today to make the tracks for a 527. It's going to take a bunch of jigs to make them. Will I be able to? Dunno, but gonna try. Unfortunately, I have this little work thing that makes me the money to buy tools and materials to make things but prevents me from having the time to do it.
