Thanks very much! I love the screaming Jimmy's too! Seems as though people love em or hate em! They have to be one of the longest running engine designs in existence. Back in the day the 71's made a great boat engine because every logging camp on the coast had parts if you got into trouble. Now there's no fish boats, no logging camps and no 2 stroke Detroits....Am I sensing a pattern?

What are the engines you're installing for?

Sorry to hijack this thread...

Marine Corp Lav 25 the last few orders we have been scavenging rebuilt packs and some new ones found in warehouses in Mexico and Australia they tell us .but we have been putting Cummins in other customers Gen 2 vehicles that used to get the Detroits. Where abouts on the Island are you located ,I go to Victoria nearly every summer to visit my parents and sister

Yes, parts are getting harder to find. We run a 4-71 in our fish boat and it has been a great engine. It's good on fuel (despite what many people think about the engines) and pushes our boat at a decent speed. We use a 4-1 reduction with a big wheel for the size of the boat and don't run it past 1800rpm.

I'm in Sooke, so not far from Victoria.

We use to have a Link Belt yard crane with a 4-71 I believe ,seen it apart many times ! Fuel mileage wasn't a concern we were building Locomotives, Been to Sooke a couple of times ,to the Pot Holes and around to Port Renfrew ,Beautiful Land would really like to retire there, its got it all. I think about it more and more , especially after getting another winter blast today,1/2 metre drift down the driveway
