What scale are you planning to build? I would buy some round gear motors(powerful!) and install one on each wheel. Each pair held together with a tube to create and axle housing. Depending on the size of wheel I would suggest using something in the 100rpm or less range. Probably around 50-60rpm would be plenty fast if your tires are 4-5" tall.

what kind of gear motors would you suggest? I am new the motor on axle thing and to make it work. ive been looking on robot shop and there are tons. they don't seem very strong 100 oz of torque doesn't seem like much?
