Lynn is so right... plastic compatible grease.

If in doubt I just toss them into a container full of 70% alcohol and shake, letting it sit for a few minutes then dry them out thoroughly, then apply the proper lubricant to the bearings.

My third tank I built the bearings came from Boca who advertises the correct grease for use in plastic. From that point on I always take the precautionary steps.

Use of the incorrect grease will destroy the surrounding plastic.
