Re: 777 HAUL TRUCK (1/12 size)
WOW, that is heavy. Glad to see the motor has plenty of grunt for moving this behemoth around. I cant wait to see all the upcoming videos of this truck lumbering out of your mine. Slap some paint on her and get to building the shovel. Summer is coming and you have an audience eagerly awaiting the show.

Easy on the throttle control with no sudden starts or stops, the gearbox should last a long time.

Re: 777 HAUL TRUCK (1/12 size)
Took a few pics of the 777 next to the D11...never realized how big a D11 is compared to a 777....both models are based on being 1/12 scale or at least they should be, is a D11 really that big compared to a 777 or is there something wrong with my scale of the two models??
(the blade on the dozer is just under 21" wide) [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] |

Re: 777 HAUL TRUCK (1/12 size)
Also took a few pics of the 777 compared to the plywood version of the PC1250....looking for input from you guys....not sure about building a PC1250 or something a bit bigger like a PC3000 in a face/front shovel set up....so looking at the pics do you think a PC1250 is a good size to go with the 777 truck or should the shovel be bigger?? Really would appreciate all your input here!!

Re: 777 HAUL TRUCK (1/12 size)
Well if you want to listen to the industry expert's, 3 to 5 scoops per truckload. But build what makes you happy!
I'm used to 22 scoops from my skidsteer to 12 wheeler dump for a full load. Don't ask me how many scoops for my mini x, never counted! So my advice goes with a grain of salt Cheer's, Neil. Last edited by doodlebug; 03-01-2014 at 08:34 PM. |

Re: 777 HAUL TRUCK (1/12 size)
For loading our 777's and 785's at work we use Komatsu 800, 1800 or 2000 if we are using excavators.

Re: 777 HAUL TRUCK (1/12 size)
I think the shovel looks a bit small. I looked at some videos of various machines loading 777 trucks and the PC-2000 looks like a nice fit. Possibly the 3000 but that is a really large machine. I found an 8000 front face shovel which looked like a nice size but there were no comparison pictures to the truck. Most of the hoe's are sitting up on a ledge probably 3-5' above the truck and that changes the perspective a lot. I'm sure you can get it right. Looking forward to a face shovel build since I don't think anyone has done that yet.

Re: 777 HAUL TRUCK (1/12 size)
Just checked with the Komatsu Applications handbook and the Cat 777 or Komatsu HD785-7, 100-ton rated trucks are recommended to be used with the Komatsu PC2000 hydraulic shovel. That makes it a 3 or 4-pass combination, depending on material. If you want a true 3-pass machine, then use the PC3000, though it's considered bit too big (and expensive) by the applications folks. I'm all for either one, 'cause I love those big Komatsu shovels and excavators!
Looking forward to seeing the shovel and I really enjoy the big triple-7! Ken

Re: 777 HAUL TRUCK (1/12 size)
If you had 2 or 3 of these triple 7's on the move, then it would definitely make sense to have the bigger shovel...
My 850 with these little dump trks I have, 3 scoops & they're full... just like lifesize, I find scale trucking just as boring too & would like to spend more time digging than hauling.

Re: 777 HAUL TRUCK (1/12 size)
Sorry no pics from work, kinda like my job and it is against the rules (in other words, get caught and lose your job).
We don't use anything larger than a PC2000 excavator to load 777's, usually a PC 800 or PC1800. We also have a couple of Hitachi 3600 excavators, a couple Hitachi 8000 face shovels, a couple O&K RH400 face shovels, four P&H 4100 electric cable shovels and a couple of Bucyrus 495HP electric cable shovels. Trucks are 777D, 777F, 785D, 793D, 797B and 797F. Or we use a Cat 992G wheel loader, takes 3buckets with our high volume bucket or 5or6 with a rock bucket. |

Re: 777 HAUL TRUCK (1/12 size)
In regards to your first question above about the size of the dozer in comparison to the truck, I found this video of a 777 being pushed up a hill by a D11. Your scale looks to be pretty close to me. What do you think?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMtaJsWRlMc If it were me I would want to size the shovel where it somewhat evens out the time spent operating the shovel as compared to driving. Like Joe said above, digging is more fun than driving. I have no experience operating the models, but I know in the real world I would much rather operate a hoe, than drive the dump truck. At the same time I wouldn't want it to take 100 scoops to load the truck as that would get old too. Looking at a 777 with a mini ex would be pretty intimidating Last edited by FlyingBeagle; 03-10-2014 at 04:16 PM. |
