New from Sask.
Hi folks. Just joined and thought I should introduce myself. Old and Retired!
I am mainly interested in building a RC model Caterpillar D7, 1947 vintage. Hoping someone would have some suggestions for a couple of stumbling blocks I foresee. First, the original D7 was a cable operated dozer ie no hydrolics, and I see no method to get the dozer to dig unless a VERY heavy dozer blade is made. A servo or actuator would be under constant strain to keep the blade off the ground. Second problem would be to keep model close to scale looking, and get the power to rear drive sprockets. Open to suggestions and ideas as I know there are a couple of people on this forum who have built model Cats in the past. Thanks. BB |

Welcome to the forum! Maybe a winch to operate the blade ? I know RC4WD carries a couple of them on their website.

Re: New from Sask.
Ok thanks. I have done a bit of reading but I haven't found that thread as yet. I used to fly planes many years ago but sold all the equipment. I will have to get info on suitable radios for operating dozer type RC models.

Re: New from Sask.
Give a look at Spektrum radios they are fairly easy to work with. I have a DX18 gen.1 myself.

Re: New from Sask.
Well I found the original Caterpillar for my build! The old girl is in pretty rough shape but if I decide to go ahead with this build I can get some measurements to make a scale from. I think this may be more than I can chew as far as construction. hope the pics come through.
