Hydraulics
I need a 2 1/2ish inch hydraulic and I'm not sure what I'm doing or how to find the one I want. I don't understand the lingo. The cylinder itself has to be around 2 1/2" long and 1/4" wide. It's for the arms of my 966

Ok I looked for that, but it's not the size I want????? IaI and some others make some but I can't figure out how to buy them or how much they are?

Bump.
Ok; so I think I have the size figured out, now I need to know which cylinder is right for me, but I (again) need information. But at least now I know the bore and stroke sizes I need (; I need a cylinder that has at least a 3/4" stroke and no more than a 2.15 inch cylinder. I think ultra precision makes one with that but I'm not sure. Also, magom doesn't list their cylinder sizes or specs on their site. Maybe somebody with their own magom cylinders could tell me? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

Metric conversion... 25.4mm = 1 inch
.75" = 19mm 2.15" = 54.61mm what bore? Send Magom an email to ask if they make custom cylinders for you.

Ok, thanks but I already emailed them and they just sent a list of their products and blueprints with no numbers or measurements and I don't understand the weird calculator thingy on their website.

I still don't understand the calculator on the magom site. If the A measurement means hinge pin to hinge pin, then what's the length of the cylinder by itself?

Looking at this page, you can buy cylinder kits of any bore to make any length of cylinder you want YOURSELF! Cut & solder... simple.

Really? Will solder hold? I thought it had to be steel? So you can make a completely brass hydraulic? The forces/newtons/etc. aren't too much stress? Sorry for all the questions I know I sound super annoying and stuff
I'm so close! [edit] Another thing: I thought hydraulics were expensive but wow are they very reasonably priced! This is surprising. cylinders can be cheap or real expensive. the big money come in the
pumps and valve bodies. |

Yes, the brass ends & copper tube is soldered together... my JD850 is brass ends & brass tube, pressure @35bar, you won't be running that high on your loader.
Premacon has a nice hyd kit available for pump & valves, you'd need 3 valves... don't buy Magom's pump & valve set up, just looking at it gives me the shivers. Plumb your loader with 4/2.5mm fittings & hose, should give you good flow speed with 18mm bore cyls on the loader arm & bucket, 14mm bore for steering. There's the cheap way to do things & maybe it works ok, depends on your expectations I guess... or spend a little more & do it right the 1st time & have it work awesome!

Ok, now I'm frustrated. The Robert pnuematics I'm looking at don't quite extend as far as I need and the homemade hydraulics technique I'm working on didn't work, now that I'm trying to do pure brass, I can't find either the pipe (o.d. 1/2") or the o-rings at he hardware store and they told me they dont make the 1/2" od brass pipe or smaller even though I've seen it in person and on here! Also while trying to grind the threads down on a brass nipple (the last ditch effort in trying to get my way of doing it to work) the grinder sucked my finger down in to it and ground half my finger nail off. Yay. It's worth noting that the way I was trying it would have technically worked (grinding the threads down so that the cap wouldn't screw in until it reached the remaining threads on the pipe).
So I think I'm just going to do the final thing I think will work: get a piece of galvanized 1/8" and weld my own custom cap up to fit on both ends and voilà! |

I built the cylinders for my Tigercat skidder using brass ends and copper tubing soldered together. I also used steel pistons that are welded to the rod. It all works just fine despite it being a little crude. Oh, and I am running around 25 bar.
