Default Iveco P80 stepvan - UPS delivery

Iveco P80 Daily CNG stepvan, in German 'United Parcel Service' livery (from Happy People RC)

A while back I was on one of those German websites, and found something i really needed.
https://www.modelltruckforum.de/foru...eco-daily-ups/

Eventually i found some place that i could get one, with shipping to opposite side of the world costing more than the rc car... then a DHL truck delivered a UPS truck to my house. (Still no luck on finding the UPS Jungheinrich forklift though)

This is my Step-van, i don't know my Real-van...

Ok, so it's not quite my favorite Package-Car ever, the old UPS 'bubble nose' cars were much sexier looking. This one has Italian styling. Plus it runs on CNG, or i guess this one is Electric, so we've got that alternate fuel / low emissions thing going.

Plans?
Electronics to drive the truck. 6ch, 30a esc, mg90 servo.

Lights. This needs to have *ALL* of the lights. Probably getting a Heyok 'the light controller' since its about the only option i can find with automatic hazard lights
https://www.heyokperformance.com/The..._19974000.aspx

Also later i'm wanting to check out options for a 'Battle-switch' to disconnect the motor so it can randomly be stopped for long times blocking traffic without fear of a runaway.

I'm going to have to practice for this No reverse, No left turns driving thing...

Looks like a fun build, so it's already RC ??? Are you just going to use the running gear that's in it and just upgrade what needs to be upgraded..??

Yeah, it was already a binary-control Toy RC. They were gonna deliver it fast & sketchy!

Planning to keep the motor, transaxle, chassis 6AA battery slot, steering axle all mostly as-is.
Rebuild the steering gearbox into a servo holder.

It already has 5mm led headlight/taillights that can tie in later when time for doing lights.
Molded / painted marker lights are probably going to get surface mount leds.

Thank you!

Chassis is pretty straight forward, and there should be enough room in here to tuck in some other extra components

A bigger servo might need less modification to the steering gearbox, but i already had a pile of mg90s, so i smashed the stock not-a-servo-horn onto a servo horn, and mangled it together.

It it so much simpler when you don't have to "recreate the wheel" isn't it...
It adds a nice touch to RC truck events when there is something different to see...

Yeah, it is a really nice change to not have to hack apart a chassis before you can try to shoehorn things where they shouldn't go. Maybe i should do that more, or build kits?

Hopefully we'll be getting more RC events where i can go be different and drive unique things...

Well I like the challenge of converting old steel toys.
Kit builds look really nice but can cost a fortune, I may do one some day but for now I'll stick to tonka's and Bruders...

I really like Steel toys a lot. They feel meaningful, feel more 'real', don't need as much ballast added, will easily 'win' if somebody accidently hits your truck with theirs, and hurt if you run into somebody.
I do admit there are some really good points to doing electronics swaps in plastic toys, and then there is more time for getting too carried away with random upgrades.

I've barely used the Flex-shaft machine on this one, some soldering... No angle grinders, hammers, punches, haven't even gotten the drill yet. It's pretty weird man!

Ain't that the truth...
the steel toys can be pretty unforgiving so you really want to be sure before you cut or drill something....
