5th wheel plate wrecker
I seen a 5th wheel EZ-Tow a guy built over on scale 4x4 and I ave wanted one for sometime so I set off to build one.
I started by making temp-lets out of oak tag and then traced them onto a piece of 1/4 alum plate and cut them out on my vertical mill "band saw" and then smoothed the edges up with a DA with 180 grit paper on it. Then I drilled the holes I needed to bolt it together with and a hole pattern for so design other than blank rails.

Next the pivot point was made out of left over chunks of box trailer rails. And then mounted to the main plate with the king pin in it. Then I traced out and drilled bent and mounted the upright and also mounted the winch that will lift the boom.

Ok I got the draw bar built tonight as close as I could to the picks on there web sight. I built it out of 2 pieces of square brass tubing one slid inside of each other and then a piece of square key stock slid inside of the brass. Then I soldered 2 brass tabs on it. 4 chains 3 links long hook it to the tow arm and the rest you can see in the picks.
And here is the different ways they show on there sight to sling a rig. Axle sling

That is a good alternative to building a full blown towtruck.

Re: 5th wheel plate wrecker
Wow. Your cuts look really clean for being done on a bandsaw. While it does look better on the Freightliner, wouldn't it be more typical for the Freightliner to need a tow? Just kiddin'!
