Best bearings?
Hey guys, building another truck and want to know what everyone uses for bearings? Anyone have a favorite? I'm looking for rubber sealed!

Re: Best bearings?
I have found that Boca bearing seem to last the longest and are a little better than the others

Re: Best bearings?
I've never experienced any complete bearing failures yet. Steel shielded, rubber shielded, cheap, or expensive. I've had some fast trucks, buggies, and helicopters for years, nitro and electric. The only time I had a bearing problem was due to rust. If you run models outside in the winter, or in water, sooner or later you'll find a bearing that will rust up and either lock tight, or just be gritty. In all honesty, the bronze bushings are pretty much indestructible in that sense. Some guys like them because they never completely fail.

You're right on all points but on tanks the bearings give a more precise tracking especially on the idler where track alignment is critical.

1 thing that nobody has said yet is; watch out for grease in the bearings that is not compatible with plastic. I have seen this be a problem in the tanks and should be the same for the trucks. I am not sure how you tell without just buying plastic compatible greased bearings to begin with. Ask your hobby shop or your supplier.

Re: Best bearings?
Lynn is so right... plastic compatible grease.
If in doubt I just toss them into a container full of 70% alcohol and shake, letting it sit for a few minutes then dry them out thoroughly, then apply the proper lubricant to the bearings. My third tank I built the bearings came from Boca who advertises the correct grease for use in plastic. From that point on I always take the precautionary steps. Use of the incorrect grease will destroy the surrounding plastic. Jeff |
