Re: Bucyrus Erie crane truck
The cab is mounted to the frame
It turned out to be easier than I expected, I just had to make a bracket so that the cab mounts right to the stock bumper mount on the knight hauler frame. Last edited by Krewmember; 11-24-2017 at 10:45 PM. |

Re: Bucyrus Erie crane truck
Just a quick update. I'm to the point where I can start designing the mechanical parts of the crane, which is good I guess
Still a lot of body work to do, but after I get the crane working. I need to start getting more pictures when I'm building Shawn Last edited by Krewmember; 11-24-2017 at 08:40 PM. |

Re: Bucyrus Erie crane truck
Thats an awesome looking crane truck! It looks like body work is coming together fairly quickly.
Any plans yet how you're going to do the crane part? |

Re: Bucyrus Erie crane truck
Thanks.
Well, it took me awhile to get this project started. The hardest part was probably deciding what I wanted to do for my first build Quote:
I have a few ideas. For boom I'm going to use brass, which means I have to make up a jig of some sort to keep things square. As for the hoist, lift and drag winches i will use gear motors. But I will have to get my lathe running before I can start working on things like the cable drums, pulleys or the swing ring. |

Re: Bucyrus Erie crane truck
Hi Krewmember I have been designing bits of my truck the boom hers a picture . It's laser cut steel that I will weld together . Each section is scale 20 feet long I will make it so you can add or remove the centre sections they will bolt together . I'm getting a KH in June then I can start the truck part . Mike

Re: Bucyrus Erie crane truck
That boom is really impressive. The laser cut steel is a great idea.
I will probably still be using brass for the boom, do to the fact that I have no welder. I can't wait to see the rest your project. BTW what crane do you plan on building? Bucyrus? American? Bantam Shawn |

Re: Bucyrus Erie crane truck
Bucyrus ! I saw one in a quarry 4-5 years ago and decided to build one then but had no clue about rc trucks until 3 years ago and a eureka lite went of in my head . I also found the operators manual which has a few drawings and measurements . I'm going to make the rest out of brass cabs etc . Mike

Re: Bucyrus Erie crane truck
I ran across this while looking for extra details to make for my crane hauler, they've got a few other bucyrus erie machines that may help out, each machine goes on to a page with more pics.

Re: Bucyrus Erie crane truck
I haven't posted here in awhile, this project has been on the shelf since my last post. I pulled it off the shelf and got a little bit of work done on it.
I rough sanded the cab roof and fenders. I also added the grill and some small detail to the bumper as see in this photo Still need to do the headlights, turn signals, the brass "Transit Crane" nameplate. And those vent things I also did a little work on the crane's housing. Made the radiator panel which means the crane has a caterpillar engine I also added some rivets using a paper hole punch. The door now slides as well I'm still trying to figure it out how to go about making the cranes frame. my plan was to mill a base out of a block of aluminum, but I no longer have access to a milling machine. So that plan is out maybe I can solder together a frame out of brass Shawn |

Re: Bucyrus Erie crane truck
Thank you, that's pretty much what I had in mind.
I just looked in to what it would cost to make the base out of brass, and it would be a little out of my price range But I have access to a welder, so I can probably use steel instead. Shawn |
