Re: Travis B's Track Loader gets a paint job
Travis, your a lucky man. Izzy did a great job on the paint and showed even more patience putting it together with out scratching it. The decals will be the topper.

Re: Travis B's Track Loader gets a paint job
the paint finish looks really good, is it painted with a compressor and spray gun or rattle cans. I suspect that is a spray gun, but just wondered if its possible to get such a good finish with rattle cans?

Re: Travis B's Track Loader gets a paint job
I really haven't thought myself a painter but this was my prep work .....
- Dis - assemble to working pieces ...... - repaired what was bent ....... - dug the dirt and debris out of every nook and cranny .... - washed everything down with contact cleaner (motor spray etc.) that was plastic safe - hand filed rough edges edges and niblets from the manufacturer (person before Travvis wans't very thurough - they rushed it... - scrubbed every inch of surface with a red scotch brite pad - layed down a thin coat of primer ..... .... I was told a nice thin layer of the first coat helps for additional layers to add without running ...... - I did this at work on a Saturday .... there was a nice air heeater nearby that was kicking on often with a good air flow - i liked this as it always blew the overspray out of the area and provided a nice warm place to dry - the parts were hung from coat hangers and the parts would actually sway a bit in the breeze of the heater ..... - then added another 2-3 layers of primer ... .... i actually layed down too many layers of primer ... got carried away .... really only needed enough to get a good color base ..... - Letting each layer tack off well - about 10-15 minutes ......there were so many parts .... after I had the cat primer layed down on each part it was soon time to start another layer on each part again - so it was kinda continuous ... - after the primer then I started on the black - there was no primer with that so it was a bit eager to run on the first coat or too - had to really lay them thin .... - after about two rounds of the black I went back to the finish coat cat .... - lay same as with the primer - nice thin coat to start then add - then went back and forth between black and finish yellow. - I let the parts hang overnight - made sure the heater would stay on to keep the room warm. - Monday morning went in early and cleaned up my mess - too all the parts down - the paint still seemed soft - it was dry but soft. I arranged all the parts with the 'exposed visible' sides up in box lids and took to my office where the sat to dry for 4 days - that saturday took about 7-8hrs to do - that was just painting .... that's about it.... |

Looks pretty good Izzy, but I'll be more impressed with its looks when its paint is worn off.

Re: Travis B's Track Loader gets a paint job
A good quality radio with ch mixing and you won't need that.
Did you put an esc on the pump? |

Re: Travis B's Track Loader gets a paint job
I'd go for the esc & ch mix instead, as it will increase run times dramatically! And should extend oil change intervals too.
I've been paying attention to you guys' comments on radios & I think I'll be getting some new Spektrums very soon. Any place special to order from? Is the 5, 6 & 7 capable of ch mix too? The extra chs on 6 & 7, are they 2 pos or 3 pos or dial? I'd like to "mix" the Komatsu wheel loader, 632 track loader & 742 dozer. Would the DX5 be sufficient for this? TIA |

Re: Travis B's Track Loader gets a paint job
Oil cooler is exactly right.....
Joe -"00" will have to commit on the choice -I for one have yet to understand the channel mixing -I get the concept but are now out of channels with my dx7 As for switches 4 STD proportional 1 3 position 2 2 position |

The thing I liked about them was that the owner worked with another guy who bought a Tamiya truck with an MFU. He worked with the guy for about 6 hours in the store and they tried 5 different makes of radio's. So far I've had really good luck with them. Hope this helps... Spencer |

Re: Travis B's Track Loader gets a paint job
I see on the Hobby Wholesale site that the $numbers are the same as USA usd web stores, but the shipping costs will be a fraction & if in stock, short wait time too. Thanx for the tip Spencer, much appreciated! Is both sticks on your tx self center at purchase or did/will you do that after?
Thanx for the info Izzy. ...I hear ya on customer preference, just saying is all. Thanx for the detailed script of options Travis. I've read up on so many different radios lately that I have lost track of what's what... gettin old, have to start writing shyt down on paper. Last edited by Lil Giants; 02-11-2011 at 10:48 PM. |
