Cool videos, Reg. I like the camera angles showing the axles and suspension working.

Well with all the lowboy builds going on around here and me having no project, I thought I should finally build my own. I bought enough tires to build one back in June so I only needed to visit the scrap yard today to get started. I don't plan on this being super detailed, just functional. I put about three hours in this afternoon and got a fair bit done. All the hard pieces are still on the list though so it will take a while to complete.

That's going to look great! You're currently fleet will look good on the trailer, yet I can somewhat see a future yarder being built.

Haha I'm not sure about a yarder but hopefully I will be building another piece to haul around soon!
I spent a little more time in the shop working on the trailer early this morning and again this afternoon. I managed to make the over the bunk, hitch-coupling, pivot thingy...Not sure what the real term is ![]() ![]() PS The bolts will be replaced with proper pins...but you already knew that anyway ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reg Last edited by RCP57; 09-17-2013 at 09:24 PM. |

TIG can be frustrating but works well for our hobby. It produces no smoke or spatter either which is a great thing.

Well I spent most of today working on the rims/hubs for the trailer. I would have had them finished but I didn't realize that I only had two bearings left. I tried to find some at the local automotive shop but had no success so I guess I will get on the phone tomorrow and see if I can find some in Victoria. If not I will have to order some from somewhere and wait
![]() Todays progress....All together there is at least 6 hours in these four wheels...I know that I am probably pretty slow and that others could build them faster/better but the next time someone asks me why our models are so expensive and how you could possibly have that much time in them, I may just slap them ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for looking! Nice to see a lowboy build from you, Reg! I didn't know these trucks could still handle a lowboy without a 5th wheel plate, and without removing the log bunk turntable. I might not be speaking with the correct wording, but still, that's pretty cool. I don't know a whole lot about these trucks, but was that common practice for hooking up to a lowboy?

Thanks very much guys. I have been too busy the last couple of days to make any progress but I may get something done soon.
Nate, I think it is fairly common with these big trucks. This way any truck with a bunk could tow it instead of needing a specific truck. On the other hand trucks that had preloader log trailers had a fifth wheel so they would that style. Here's a couple pics of the bunk style hitches. The one trailer doesn't even have a pivot ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reg |

Come on now, I never get mad...
![]() It started to rain this afternoon and my work was done for the day so I got back into the shop. I was happy because I got to play with my favorite toy(TIG) and stick some pieces together! My plan is to build the entire back half including suspension before I weld it to the rest of the frame. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This one is for size reference...Yes it is almost 60" ![]() ![]() Thanks for looking! |

I put in a couple more hours on the lowbed today. When I started out on this I told myself that I would build it light and not worry about it being very strong...Well by the time I'm finished it will be heavy as usual and I'll probably be able to give kids rides at the next show. Anyway, I got a bit more done on the ramps so just a couple more things and I will have to start on the suspension.
