Re: Kenworth 850 Off Highway
Awesome stuff Reg! Did you build the track loader too, I'm sure you did. Is there a build thread on that, did I miss something?
Love your outside photos and videos in the sun. |

Re: Kenworth 850 Off Highway
I built the track loader back when I first started in the hobby. As soon as my Euc was finished I realized that having a dump truck with out a way to load it makes no sense....http://rctruckandconstruction.com/sh...ighlight=kitty
Yes, the weather was nice here today. It sounds like it will be really nice by the weekend. I think Mario and Wayne need to fly out... |

Re: Kenworth 850 Off Highway
Yesterday I decided to try and put a load on the big KW with the Volvo. I know loading logs with a thumb and bucket isn't really the way to do it but when you don't have another option you use what you have to get the job done. I changed the shape of the thumb slightly and it worked not bad but it still needs some more tweaking. I did however manage to bend it so i know it is squeezing fairly hard. At the end of the first video I struggle to load what they call a berry(a really big log). Patients pays off, and after a while I do get it on there!lol

Re: Kenworth 850 Off Highway
Boy, I would hate to be a passing motorist if that big boy was to shift and fall off the top of the load. Great videos, I like that your not using any of those fake logs like the other Canadian Loggers tend to use.

Re: Kenworth 850 Off Highway
Haha! No cardboard tubes with bark glued to them in my operation. I did manage to cut a couple of cedars that were hollow though which does help. I modified the thumb a little on the excavator since and now it will pick up a full length log the same size as the short I am loading in the video. Now the problem is the machine tips over if I'm not lifting parallel to the tracks.... Always something!

Wow...I had no idea how big the kenworth is compared to a king hauler....
Looks like you could haul 200 lbs on that trailer ! |

Re: Kenworth 850 Off Highway
I never get tired of looking at photos of your masterpiece models, sitting outside in a natural environment. Yes, okay, so the little trucks on the big trailer is not a good scale load or anything, but they still look great, and the size difference is awesome!

Reg. With the other two trucks in the same picture you have a better idea how big that KW is.. Love that big scale. would like to see it in person..

Re: Kenworth 850 Off Highway
It's a big truck for sure. I really like the realism that the larger scale provides. Driving around a truck that runs empty without the trailer @36 pounds is pretty cool. Loaded with logs the truck and trailer way in at well over 100 pounds. The suspension works very well with that kind of weight and the tires have some scale squish to them too. My Hayes has some decent detail and I think turned out pretty good from a looks standpoint but it sure doesn't look very scale while driving on anything but smooth surfaces. Tire size has a lot to do with this as well of course!
Thanks to everyone for the compliments on the truck! Reg |

Re: Kenworth 850 Off Highway
I was looking through this thread the other day and it reminded me of all the effort it took to build this truck! This is definitely the most complex thing I have ever made and quite possibly always will be. It's funny how a year can go by and our memories of certain things start to fade. Anyway, I was thinking about again today and when I stopped for lunch I decided to see if I could make a video of the build pictures. It's hard to believe that over 6 months of work can be compressed into 16 minutes worth of pictures. It's kind of sad really!

Reg,
Thanks for posting your build video. I can't say it enough, you skills are just amazing! I actually watched it twice and paused several times just to take in the detail and complexity of this project. You are the master of metal for sure. |

Don't sell yourself short Reg. You may not think it'll happen but.....something tells me there will be another epic build coming from the RCP camp in the future.
It's in your nature! You have to! |

Re: Kenworth 850 Off Highway
Thanks very much to all of you. I actually enjoyed watching the video myself because it made me stop and think about the process of making certain parts.
Thanks again to those that helped keep me motivated though out the build! Mario, you are probably right. It may just be a while. |
