the rollers took yesterday + an hr this morn only because of using a bent steering shaft for the stock could only do a little at a time . the front idler rings took some time as that steel was some hard stuff had to rotate my carbide on some of my cutters . took a good couple min. to cut 1 off the stock . now I got to make 2 centers and 4 plates and weld together .

Re: dresser TD40B dozer
The track frames and rollers are the most time consuming things on building a dozer, the rest it goes fast.

Re: dresser TD40B dozer
I use solid for the idlers just for the extra front end weight unless they are spoked then i might mill them out the idlers on my terex and the D 7 are 3 inch solid by 1 inch thickgood and heavy to hold the blades and front ends down

Re: dresser TD40B dozer
Henry , they say dumpster diving runs in my family . For hollow idlers they got some weight . the idlers are 4.25 dia . Here's some pics with some measuring tools to show size . The tractor will be 20" long once I get the track frames and finals in place and 13" to top of cab w/out ac unit which will be another .875"

Re: dresser TD40B dozer
I just noticed that the tracks are concave where the idlers and rollers run. That's going to make the dozer ride up and down. You're going to have to machine the links flat.

Re: dresser TD40B dozer
Steve , they are a little but not like std roller chain . If the bounce is to bad , then I'll have to do some abrasive machining
Clyde , give me a couple weeks . Making 18 rollers is not bad but when you have 100+ of something IHSteve

Re: dresser TD40B dozer
Lou , I was going to go with 1 24V dewalt 2 speed drill motor with steering brakes and clutches BUT for the modeling and an electric motor , seems to be nonefficant . so It will be 2 milwaukee 2 speed drill motors . For some reason cat has 2 electric drive motors in the new D7E This will be close to the size of joe's D9R
Henry , It's getting time to get someone to run all those parts for me . It ties me up I can't get to other things . IHSteve

Re: dresser TD40B dozer
Hey Steve, 2 speed motor's will make it operate just like the full size version, with planetary steering. I had a chance to sit in the TD 40 that was at ConExpo/ConAg 2 year's ago, Big! My neighbor has a TD 25B, I get to push the dumpsite with it once in a while. 82,000 lbs of enjoyment. I just joined the forum, and am learning alot from all of you! Later, Neil#? aka doodlebug.
