hey jack, being new to this hobby and trying to find affordable parts, HARDWARE, etc... can be the hardest thing about it I think.
"McMaster-carr.com" is a supplier that I think is one of the best for prices!! they got tons of things you probably need.... screws, bolts, nuts, metal, the list goes on and on. lol

anyways...
here is a link for the correct most comment MM bolt used (you can get any length) but this link shows you an example....
a 100 count bag for only $4.00...

hope this helps ya...

You can get a lot of stuff you will need from Fastenal. I just bought 3mm screws in a bag of 100 for about $3

I used McMaster-Carr, I thought the prices were very reasonable, and their service was top notch. Heck, my order got shipped to the wrong address, so they shipped it again, then somehow my original order showed up, and they told me to keep it for free.

Near as I know McMaster-Carr won't ship to individuals in Canada. I use a local supply place for button head and socket head stuff down to 3mm or 4-40. They have no connections to get small, scale hardware though so I use Micro Fasteners. Their prices are not always the best but the service has been very good!
