Tamiya mercedes with Leimbach crane

Hi All,

Have been working on this build for a while now. It will be the third Mercedes in my fleet and my first experience with model hydraulics. The plan is to have servonaut sound, lights and ESC etc and two spektrum receivers, one for the truck, one for the crane.

The current rate of progress will see it finished in about 2018...














And here are the other mercedes trucks in my fleet, to give you an idea of the livery the truck will be finished in:

That is going to be a great truck, and your colour scheme looks really good.

Leimbach do sell a modul that you can run both the truck and the crane off of one reciever, thought I'd let you know just incase.

I did look in to the channel expander thing that Leimbach do, I came to the conclusion the a second receiver would be better or a couple of reasons:

The expander only has 6 channels, I needed 7 - 6 for the crane functions and the legs and one to on troll the pump.

Having said that- I would be interested to hear if anyone has one and how they got on withh it. Also, second reliever was much cheaper than the expander module!!!

Afraid I did not get any more build pics of the crane , just the ones I already posted...

Ok I thought I'd let you know about the modul just incase.

Can I just ask, how hard was the crane and legs to put together? And do they bolt straight to the frame rails?

I really appreciate you mentioning it anyway- it could have Ben just the thing I was looking for so thanks!

It is not the easiest kit to assemble, mainly because the instructions are all in German and are a series of photographs rather than drawings/ diagrams to show you what to do, so trial and error and guessing we're used quite a bit. If it ad the same quality instruction manual that Tamia produce for their kits it old be much easier!

It comes with a plate that clamps the crane and legs directly to the chassis pretty effectively, although I did have to modify a few things to get them to fit properly.


Wolfgang, thanks for the comment, I like the old style of trucks nod really like your models, especially the body with the wood and brass sides, I hope to do something similar for my truck.

Slight update to the truck tonight...

I soldered together a rear bumper bar ( called an under run bar in the UK) and fitted a Carson trailer coupling.

The bar does not look quite straight in the pics, needs a touch of fine tuning I guess...

Thanks guys, the crane is made by Leimbach in Germany.

I have made some more progress over the past few weeks and will put some pics up this weekend. Truck is painted and the crane now works. Just got to install the electronics and make a flat bed for it now.

Well I finally got round to taking a couple of pics in the sun!

The cab is done and the chassis painted. Crane works a treat, which means I spend more time playing with it than I do finishing it off.

Outstanding jobs are to fit all the electronics and tidy the wiring, build a flatbed body for it from brass and aluminium make a dummy fuel tank out of plasticard to hide the valves and then think about a trailer.

Pretty pleased with the way it's turning out, hopefully it should finished soon

Thanks for the comments guys, I am in wiring and soldering **** at the moment, making a harness for all the lights and getting the (approx) 14 miles of wire to sit neatly in the truck out of site is taking a bit longer than I planned. Should be up and running in a couple of weeks, then I just need to put together a flatbed ody.

Shear key, I'm based in the North East, near Darlington, but there are plent of other RC truckers over the UK. Should hopefully be taking my fleet of trucks and forklift to Newark truckfest in sept.....
