Default getting the ar 9020 and xplus 8 to bind

So i have a question about the dx-18 with the xplus 8 expansion 1 st ? I seem to have a problem getting them both to bind at the same time i am using a battery pack with 4 brand new 4 aa batteries plugged into the first receiver should i have a second battery for the xplus ?

As far as I can tell from the website and manual, you don't need to bind the xplus, as it's not wireless. After plugging it in to the ar9020 it should just work, as long as the jumpers are set correctly? Unless I'm misunderstanding something.
