Default Shipping/customs damage

So I decided to buy a used premacon 944b basic from a fellow member in Oz, we struck a deal and after payment he packaged the model in the original wooden crate it came in from Germany, all nicely cable tied to the base and filled with polystyrene stuff. (pics as proof)
Then a few days later it arrives at customs in France who clear it the next day but don't release it for shipping onto me for another week

When it finally arrives at my door its in a cardboard box with the original wooden base at the bottom of the box with a huge split in it, all the cable ties have been cut and it looks like the model has just been thrown in the box

So on first inspection all looks ok until I look closely at the boom, when I spot a crack at its base then I notice the dipper ram pipes have had a wollop and the cab is loose!

Not sure where the damaged happened either in transit or at customs but either way i'm really p*****d especially when you spend so much for shipping you would expect them to take more care regardless of whats in the box.

The seller is contacting the shippers to try for compensation, at least it was insured.

Pics:

Rant over! Just to be clear, I'm very happy with the seller, its the shippers/customs that I'm mad at.

Stu

Ya, that really sucks and you need to make sure they fully compensate you for that!! Hope that arm can be replaced easily and make sure you stay on them about making it right, speaking of the shipper's!!

Hello make sure you get new parts and they are from Premacon 944b for your excavator. If I was you I would not accept money but the replacement parts for the damaged parts. Let them get the parts and pay for the shipping of them. Ed

I know what your saying, its out of my hands now though as its up to the sender to make the claim as he's the one with the "contract" with the shippers.

Damm, yea it sounds like both of you did the right thing and to me it sounds like a customs check. Customs have the power to open anything. It's kind of a random thing unless something looks off. But when these guys do they don't care and figure oh well it's clear and we will just throw it in a box for shipping co. I had a friend that worked at a big commercial shipping (brown trucks) and he had told me of a lot of stuff. Basically said if it's valuable pack it good!! And make sure you have damage insurance. Man I know how excited you would be to get the box and then jaw drop !! That really sucks. No matter what it's just a real pain for all of you. Seller probably feels bad and sounds like he's on the right path.

The wife rang me to say it had arrived so I rushed home from work early (so excited and it was a friday after all!) then opened it up and as you say, jaw drop!

Was really gutted but the seller is on the case in oz and can take up to 10 days for a claim.

Still waiting for Premacon and THS modelle to reply to my several emails for the prices on the parts its been almost a week and nothing!

With out the prices I don't see how the claim can be processed?
