Default question about a peterbilt 320 compact coe

hi I'm trying to find information about a cab to make scale drawings.
I'm not sure I'm actually going to build a truck with it.
making a virtual model is half the fun.
I have got picture's of the cab from all the richt angle's. I just need a lenght width, hight, to start from. I could take the wheel as a reference.
but if someone could tell me the asked dimentions I can get a better start and an better model.

the picture's I found are from the internet.
.

many thanks PetervR

I'm working with autocad al day. adding the picture to a drawing and draw the line's across is isn't a problem for me.
its just how to get the right scale width.
I started with the drawing having the cab at 155mm width without the fenders ( wedico scale).
there aren't that many pete 320's in europe so running in to a real one and comparing it to the model 1 on 1 is onlikely, so there is some freedom that I have builing the cab.

When I'm going te build the cab. it's probebly going to be a resin one. those cabs are more resitant to modeltrack accidents. so cardboard first. silicone next. than the resin.
it usually works fine fore me
now I'm working on a DAF XF tamiya scale
http://www.modelbouwforum.nl/forums/...ya-schaal.html

it's still cardboard. and the resin will be next at the end of summer for this one.

and I mailed the company where picture's come from, but there isn't an answer jet. but there is still time, I'm not in a rush.
there is a nice pete roll off. in the highway bit of this forum. I want to build an ugly one.
there is the dutch version of the rolloff on my shelf with the daf conventional cab, and i thougt it was nice to have the american version off the work truck next to it. and beeing able to swap the dumpers
first things first. there is a drawing to be made

Wow incredible work in that cab! I'll talk to my buddy who is a garbage man and see if he can get you some numbers if they have one there

HI.
after one lunchbreak I have got a basic drawing

the black dimentions are scaled and in mm, the red one's are what I think, the true size's are in inches. based on my experience and the wedico wheel.
those are the size's I need to have checked.

Thumbs up Re: question about a peterbilt 320 compact coe

Peter,
check the following links;

Owners Manual http://www.peterbilt.com/uploaded/ma...s%20Manual.pdf

http://truckmagz.com/truck-review/pe...ations-review/

Fleet owners specifications multiple trucks, has the L700 but poor quality scan
http://fleetowner.com/site-files/fle...pecs-89-92.pdf

See if any of this helps. I searched for body builders manual for the L700 but didn't finish going through the search results. Might be worth playing with the search criteria in goggle for awhile.

Cheers

Trackerman

hi.
I tought I had found the one with the straigh back was the newer one ( from 2007).

and google is my friend ;-) a good way to find a lot of information quick. But. there is no information about this specific cab. I found it all for all the other cab's but there is nothing on this one. not the old not the new. I found infromation how to put the seatbeld on an pregnant woman in a peet 320. all the detail how to tild the cab. up to 65 degree. I found it all. accept the overall witdh hight and depth off the cab.

For projects like this, you might consider searching for a die-cast model, or a plastic static kit, of the truck you want to build. You can get some pretty good measurements that way, and scale them up, as needed. Even if the model is not 100% accurate, it should get you in the ballpark, and provide another source of dimensions to double check your drawings. Now if there ever was a Pete 320 truck model produced in die-cast metal, or as a plastic kit, that is another question.

I have been lokking around the internet. at stellar rolloff body's I found a bit more I need.
and toy of diecast pete's there are plenty. but no 310 of 320.
I think I have to make the front window's in my drawing less droopy.. and start 3d drawing.
to see if it all will fit.

Hi,

Have you tried writing Peterbilt for information? I know some companies will help out modelers looking for information, others not so much. Never dealt with Peterbilt so I don't know their attitude but I guess it's worth a try.

Now if you get time, I'm sure others here as well as me would love to see the process you use to make your cabs. What materials you use, where you buy them, the steps you take etc. Feel free to write up a post on it if you don't mind.

HI
about the cab builing there is a lot to be told, but actually it's easy when you know your way around is.
ther is just one thing most modelbuilders hate to do. ant that's to throw away the thing they put so many ours in.
but if you want to have a perfect mold. there is a risk that the cab you made is coming out the mold in small peices. I don't use babypowder of siliconspray to have an easy release. everything on the surface of the cab (prototype) will eventually end up in the mold. and the resin cab.
painting over babypowder of siliconenspray isn't easy.

a truck I made for the DAF museum in eindhoven. for kids to experiense airflow on a scale truck is shown here, is't in dutch. but the pictures will tell it all I hope.

Hi
Thanks for all the help so far.
I want to share with you the progress I made so far.

to match it with the european containers there are some minor changes to be made on the roll off part off the chassis. just like there are some changes to be made to the containers
the cab is getting there
if it would to be scaled up to real size it would be 95 inch wide over the wheelarces. I think thats just fine.
now it's time to get all the detail in the drawing. and than to build the cab.

HI.

in scale the slots are about the hight of 10 human hairs the metal stril inbetween only 4.
I'm looking around if it's possible to lazercut of with a flowjet.
if not. will just be the grill on the white truck in the foto
