Now I need to make a bumper and tail light assembly and finish off the box. Not sure if I should paint the box or just leave it raw. [IMG][/IMG]

That looks awesome. Nice work on the new dump box! It's quite a bit nicer than your first attempt. Absolutely nothing wrong with giving things a second or third shot, when you don't get the results you want the first time.

Thanks Espeefan, I usually end up making things twice especially when bending is involved.
They are the same parts, but I was more careful when I bent them and i welded the bottom up higher.

I say leave the body raw and polish it. And just my two cents I would add cross memebers to the side of the dump box to add to the realism. That's just me being a stickler, either way it still looks great as it sits.

Hey Bricknick, the box that was my inspiration has the sides smooth like this one, Ox truck bodies makes one that has the flat sides, I went back and forth on the cross members or smooth sides. Thanks for the input its nice to get other opinions.

Do you think the screw drive works better than the Frigelli? More powerful?

I was using the L12 and it would lift the box nicely but if you added any weight it would not lift it. I could have relocated it to get more leverage but then it would not go all the way up. So yes the screw drive works better but its kind of slow but will lift more weight, I have not tried to see how much it will lift yet.

Well here are some more photos of the king hauler dump truck. I am very happy with the way this is turning out. This was a pretty fast build, now I can slow down and add things along the way like bumpers and lights and things like that. Now I just have to keep at it, it's only been about five years since I started the excavator that sits behind it. I now have all the parts to finish it just need to do it.

The dump truck is looking great. That's a nice lowboy trailer too. From PMD?

For radio antennas, if you have a 2.4 giga-hertz receiver, the antenna should be short enough to hide underneath the cab, without any issue. If you are using an older style 75 mega-hertz radio, you can still fit that antenna under the cab as well. Get a piece of lexan sheet, plastic sheet, styrene sheet, or anything else that is similar and not made of metal. Drill a bunch of little holes into the material of your choice and weave the antenna in and out of the holes, taking care to keep the antenna from being bundled against itself. Or you could also take a regular plastic antenna tube, run the antenna up the tube, out the end, then leave a little slack at the top, and wrap the extra down the length of tube, tightly, and make the wraps close together, but again, not over the top of itself. A piece of heat shrink tube over the wraps will keep it all tidy and in place. If you make enough wraps, your antenna tube should still be short enough to fit inside the cab or hood. Mount it horizontally, if you have to. You might notice a slight decrease in the radio reception range doing it this way, but in my past experience it's barely perceptible. Most of the time we run trucks and equipment close to ourselves so we can see the action! Decreased range, if any, shouldn't be an issue.
