Default Back in the saddle again!soon to be skidder!

Purchased a pricey J/D tractor a while back for the cab.Managed to come up w/most of the parts to do my build, except for the pump. When I placed the order for the pump, was told don't hold my breath waitin for it.
Well.....Here it's one year & 3 months later! & I have my pump!
Good thing I didn't hold my breath!
Anyhows, got all the goodies back together again,& got a good deal done yesterday. She's not going to look just like the 1:1,But close enough for me.
So here's what I've got so far.

Of coarse, front axle has to be able to pivot.

Now the rear frame.

Wanted to make the hood nice & narrow like the 1:1,But ain't no way all of this is gunna fit in it.

Turns out,the drive line is no walk in the park. Had to git tricky with the parts to fit it in.

Don't know if I'm gunna stick w/these tires.

They bite real good, but don't know if they look ok.
Wachya think?
Thanks for lookin!

By the time you get all 4 wheels on it, it will look GREAT! Where are you going to hide the hyd. pump?? Looks like it is going to be too long to fit in anywhere.

FGD, that is a nice piece you got going on there. You are right about the expensive JD..... that was a collectors piece, but it looks nice sitting atop the skidder.

FGD, Your Skidder is looking good, its going to take some planning to get all the componets in the limited space, you may wake up in the middle of the night a few times before its done but its going to be worth it. What scale are you building to? Keep us posted, love those skidders!! Fred

Dang-it Freddy! I was hoping to have an only build that one of the experts hadn't had a crack at yet! Now you're gonna be done before me! It's lookin' good! The cab is super nice. I started out trying to use diff's but they were to wide for the scale and the power-train to them was gonna be years in the making for me if not impossible. I'm sure this will be another home run.

Wow! Thanks Guys! You Boys have more faith in this, than I do.

Tc1,that little pump will be a lot smaller when it goes in this baby.

Fred, you ain't kiddin, this is gunna take some do'in before it's draggin trees. That's if it don't go out the window first.

Greg, you might be thinking of Travis w/his elfs. I'm a one man band!
I just have a lot of crap riped apart at once,so looks like I'm gittin something done.

Ben,after spending 3 hrs tryin to make what I wanted to use work.Decided to go w/these.

Just look at all the room I'm saving. I'll bet she'll really throw some dirt w/these babies in er
Not really!
& thanks for hav'in faith in this turnin out! It sure ain't gunna look as good as Iron arts.
I'll be happy if it works & don't look like it came out of junk yard wars.

DP/9,those tires & rims come w/these axles.

Purchased about 4 years ago from Pmd.

After a couple hrs of tryin diff trany & motor combos, this is what I did.

Gunna have to make a cover & try to hide it w/cylinders & mounts,This baby needs to be slow & strong! But,yet fast. & this is the best of those worlds that I could dig out of my bone yard.
Then the drive shaft.

Top center pivot.

Thanks for lookin!

Nice start! At this pace you'll be done in no time. Love that cab. I have an old 1/16 John Deere skidder (2 actually, one for parts) but the cab is open, plastic and lacks detail. Are you going to do a line or grapple skidder? I see two sets of cylinders - one for the blade and one for steering.

Td9clyde,Tryed to get another set,& no luck. Guess these were sittin around.
Vanisle,going for the grapple look.
Well drive shafts & steering are in.

Had to slide two tires on it just to git a look.

I'm not diggin the motor set up,but hopefully can hide most of it w/cylinder mounts & cover. Might wind up scrappin that set up,& going w/something else. Or just finish it & see how it looks. If it looks like shyt,I'll gut it & try again.
Thanks for lookin!
FGD

Anyone have any suggestions on how to cut the back of the cab? & not make a mess of it.
I gave up on the torch idea.

Is it diecast? And how much do you need to cut out? I have something in mind but need to more info.

FGD The skidder looks great and can hardly wait to it finished. I've had good luck with a Dremel tool with a slitting disk. Just go real slow and it won't even burn the paint. Takes a real steady hand and you'll get good results.

What do you need to cut out? An endmill makes a nice cut. I'd be happy to cut it for you on my mill ... but there's that shipping and time thing that doesn't really make it practical.
