Well, with everyone posting Bruder conversions I thought that I'd throw mine in here. I took a different route and went with regular gear motors for the tracks.


The shafts on the motors aren't long enought to get through the track housing so i extended it with some couplings.


Turns out that the center of the drive sproket after checking it with drill bits is 4mm so I drilled through and fastened a hub to the outside of the sproket with screws and it worked fine.



Hooked a Saber tooth to the motors and It was moving quite well. Next up is the cylinders.

The tracks are the plastic ones that came with model. If they don't last I'm hoping that someone will have replacement ones available then. Reg, That four stroke engine is a thing of beauty and looks to have a lot of torque, just the way I like em!

So how did the problem solving go with your dump trk cyls Rob? We have yet to see a vid of your reworked Mammoth.

Still having problems with the cylinders not retracting. I think I found the soloution this morning thou, with a company in CA. They have piston cup seals that start at 3/8" so I ordered some 3/8 and 3/4 that should be here in a coupe of weeks. Have replumed out all the Hydraluic lines with bigger size tubing too, so I have more oil flow. I guess time will tell if it works out or not.

I have trouble with only only side running off....still way too much slack in both of them. Hopefully someone will make some stronger replacememts

Magom has aluminum ones and aluminum sprockets that were for the tracked loader. Prob the same

I can't believe I missed your progress on the mammoth, particularly the lift cylinders. I'm working on a similar project and came to the conclusion to make double acting cylinders. Problem I found was like you said about having the holes in side of cylinders. I still have to tackle a cylinder head with both ports on it and tube inside first stage. Hade same thing with cylinders not coming down very well with reversing pump. But it is possible and in a couple months I'll not be able to put it off anymore .

Well fellas looks like Greg let the Cat out of the bag, so to speak. Greg and I did a little horse trading in the spring and we both started our part of the build then. He did the chassis and I'm doing the box. The machine I chose was the Cat D400E ejector.

Greg worked his magic and turned out a great chassis and cab assembly by mid summer and I took the summer off and fell behind. Fabricated the box out of steel and aluminum with a lot of the work done on my mill. Progressed this far and now have the tail gate operating as per the video. Here's a couple of pictures so far



I was able to find some of these small gear motors used for rc aircraft landing gear and the fit in where the hydraulics cylinders for the dump door goes and the speed is just about right

The real machine has two cylinders but I used the other side to install micro switches to control the open and closed function and have them on the the radio gear switch.

Now it's on to the ejector shuttle and slider, thanks for looking Rob

Some of you were wondering how I made out with the cylinders on the 789. After I saw the the multi stage cylinders on rcbrmin web site I ordered up a pair of cylinders, they are well built and you can completely rebuild then if needed.

Bore sizes are 21mm 17mm 13mm and 9mm with a total stroke of 60cm.


As I only needed an 8.5in stroke I removed the top two stages and modifyied the small bore rod so i could feed the cylinder from the rod end.
I should say that the real trucks have flip over valve on the dump box circuit the senses when the load goes and changes the pressure to the down side of the cylinder.
In the video you can see what happens to me with an 25lb load of buck shot in the box as it rips the cylinder mounts right out of the box .

Just an update of the wheel system. I turned the rims from delron and on the back made it one rim with a two tire bead.

To hold the wheels on I embedded 3/16" rod into the hubs with epoxy to drive the rims.

Rob!! I am trying to dually the rear just like you. looking at options. I am now considering getting new rear rims 3d printed. Do you have the specs of the super wide rim you made? or was there a file you used? I'm assuming you turned them manually, but not sure. Any help with measurements would be great!
