Default another newbie - I'm in DFW

hello, I am new to the construction world. I've done the cars/trucks and did truggy racing a little. I get such a kick out of watching these excavators and skid loaders moving dirt piles that I'd like to get one some day. I see there are fairs or expo in europe that people get together and do it, but do they have that stuff every in USA? I'd love to go see it in person and see first hand the differnet scales and models out there. I'd love to get an excavator and play around with it but don't like buying cheap junk. Anyway, I live in Dallas area. I have a son who is almost 3. Can't wait for him to get a little older to give me an excuse to buy more rc stuff. I'll use him as an excuse for the wife. If anybody is in the DFW area and has some nice RC construction equipment, I'd love to come see it in action and get a lesson and some tips on where to go, what to look for and what are the good brands.

yup. DFW is Dallas Ft Worth. I'm in Irving, which is mid-cities. right between downtown Dallas and downtown Ft Worth. I love looking at everybodies pictures and videos. Are most of the nicer ones home builds? or is there some manufacturer that makes kits? I have the skills to build a nice kit, I just can't cut and fabricate parts out of nothing. I don't want to buy some cheapo plastic toy that can't move or lift anything. In order to be fun, you want to actually play with it!

A couple of places of interest for a good product at reasonable prices..

http://www.vario-earthmovers.com/

http://www.fumotec.de/

Several ppl on the forum who have built both the excavator & adt dump trk to help you out a long the way.

Welcome to forum.

what model radios are you all using? how many channels? I'd like to look up some. racing 1/8 truggies is just a simple spektrum 2 channel. I'm sure the remotes for these things are $1000 too right?

The Spektrum line suits my needs.. I find them easy to program and fit comfortably in my hands.

DX6 for trks and some constr equip
DX7 I should get for the wheel loader as it has 3 mixes for the hyds (DX6 only has 2)
DX8 works well for the excavator, but the 3pos switches don't communicate well with the Sabertooth for the tracks.
DX10T I think will be the ultimate for a constr equip radio.. if it's ever released to the consumer, so many delays
