Default Perimeter lighting help

Hello.

I'm building a flatbed trailer, and want to add 5 or 6 amber marker lights to each side along its length. I want to have the power for them installed on the trailer so they can be separate from tractor.

3mm or 4mm LED's seem to be the way to go, so I'm asking for suggestions on where to purchase 10-12 lights that can be wired as two harnesses, one each side, and a compact battery power source, plus switch to turn on and off.

Thanks, Rick

Rick,

The first place to check is a great post on this forum http://www.rctruckandconstruction.co...read.php?t=441

I've been purchasing my LED's from http://led-switch.com/3mm%20LED.htm. They have a great selection and reasonable prices.

You'll also need some resistors, so this calculator will help http://led.linear1.org/led.wiz

Good luck,

Rob

I wired my flatbed with 3mm LEDs. tailights are 5mm. The LED I use are a little more exspensive but come prewired with a resistor so there is no calculating required and a lot less soldering work. They also have switches and 9 volt battery boxes and a whole lot more. Great to deal with and good quality. I think I've had no more than 2 bad bulbs in the over 100 I've ordered.

rsd53: That is a great post indeed with a ton of useful info. There's a lot more to LEDs than I realized. I also didn't realize that the topic creates so many emotional responses from people.

Supermario: The Model Train Software sites pre-wired LEDs with switch and 9 volt battery will be a great fit for my project!
