D8R is on a distinguished road
Default Wood and plastic model

Found some images today that I thought was gone. First one is a Wooden model of an Akerman excavator H16B. Everything except tubing to hydraulics was made in wood. Scale is 1/10, built to manufactors drawings. This was back in the beginning of 70´s, worked a little extra at factory. This model was sold to Akermans and displayed there until they closed factory. Don´t know what happend with this.

Next model is a Volvo wheel loader LM1641, this also built complete in wood abd also in 1/10. Model has been damaged during moves but maybee one day repaired. Tires was made with the pattern made from small wooden parts glued to paper and then glued to the tire. Also built in the 70´s.

My next big model was the CAT 992 earlier shown in my D8R tread. Here´s another picture of me running the model at a construction show in 1977. Did work all week in wooden chips. This is also a 1/10 model but built in aluminum. At this I had only hammer, handsaw, and other basic house hold tools. Did the bucket bending in my parents stairway by hand. Today with a very well equiped work shop I can´t image how i could build this one.

During 1979 I built a R/C controlled scale (guess, scale 1/10) model of Kalmar new generation forklifts. This model was built to order and was used during a couple of years as a promational model at fairs for Kalmar. I was told that at the last exibition for the model all radio equipment was stolen from model, this was in former Sovjet union. The model is on display at kalmar office, unfortunatly I don´t have any pics on this one, will try to stop factory when passing.

In 1982 I tried 1/14 scale, got an order for a Scania R/C truck that should promote radio communication at a truck show. This was an Tamaya kit with a Scania L140 cab, sorry no pics on this one.

During the beginning of 80´s I was building plastic models, and as a Scania worker the brand was obvious. All models are from Italeri kits that was adapted to look like the prototypes. Scale is 1/24.
This first model is a R142H 8x2. Cab was shortened to day cab, got the new Intercooler nose, chassis was lenghted a wheel hubs rebuilt to correct execution. Crane was a Italien EFFER 55Tm complete scratch built like the flatbed with working sides and supporting legs with working o-rings to be positioned.

This was one of a lot 1/24 models, some ended up at Scania musseum where they still are.

Another scratch build model was for a Norwegian customer, also a 4 axle chassis but this time with a vaccum cleaner superstruction.

With a growing family and house to take care of I whent to modeling trains, this time US models and with Tidewater Southern and their Modesto branch as prototype. Will come back with pics from this one when got them uploaded.

Have a nice 2011 with a lot of modeling!
Dan
