Default Hooded Daf 2800 european roll-off

As you might know a truck with a hood is no so usual as on the us side off the great pond.
like the pete 320 what I was posting about earlier. This truck is not the most likely to have a model build off.
at the pete cab posts I talked about the euro roll off. I thought It was time to show that one. I hope It's in working order at the show we have end october

the build started 7 years ago. the idea was to get a leimbach "hook system".
and have a finished model real quick. that was a wrong idea.
first the build of the cab. is was made of balsa wood.

made to a almoust perfect finish,

to make a resin mould.
the resin cab is a good copy of the wooden one.

the chassis was made from rectangular tube in the wedico size.

.
the frontaxle is from wedico. the driven axles from robbe. the suspention I made myself. like most parts of the truck.

the truck was driving and with a simple dumpbox

at this moment there are 2 drawbar trailers in construction for this truck.
the easier one is a modified bruder lowboy.

It is narrowed en shortend. and an axle added.

the second trailer is not that far in the build.

this is what is suppost to look like when it's finished.
but this is what it looks like now

the truck is not having a hooksystem. it has a chain system fitted now.

it works like this.
the rollerchain is going round. at some point there are 2 other chains fixed to te rollerchain. witch can hang down to te ground.
.

and there is a hookup plate fixed to the front of the containerskid.

this way the truck is able to pickup the containerskid. when is working well, the driver can stay in the cab. so it's perfect for rc models.

more next time

Very interesting build! All the hand-made parts make it even more impressive! What did you use to make the resin model of the cab?

hi
any cab is posible. once you have build a prototype like I did with balsa wood. balsa is easy to cut gleu bend an sand down, after that, getting is smooth with filler and paint.
when the cab is finished, gleu it in a box. fill the box with "silicone for casting molds"
in this case i filled the inside too with the silicone. getting the balsa cab out off the mold was the end of that cab. it came out in little peices. but having the mold that was not that bit of a deal.
after that putting the mold right side up. and fill it with pu-resin.

any cab is possible.
a few I made.

.

about the rolloff. I didn't want to use hydraulics, there issn't room for a spindel in the chassis.
so I needed to find something else. By builing the hyster forklift i had the solution.

the mechanical "cilinders" are in 3 pieces, and work based on pulling a wire. the first part is fixed to the chassis. and over the first part runs a wire that pulls the second part up. the third part is fixed to the boom, to pull that one up. there is a wire fixed to the first part and runs over the top of the second part to the bottom of the third part.
so pulling a wire with a winch, makes the boom go up.

to be continued

DAF - do you have much power loss on the cable system due to the many small diameter turns? The smallest cable I have found here is 1/16 to 3/32" and it is multi strand stainless. The min radius is about 1/4".

hi
I use nylon fishing wire.
and by hand it does run smooth and not heavy at all.
I don't have pullies at the turns. but the turns are made over a 1,5mm brass rod.
there is room for improvment when nessesery. to put small pullys in. but not much room
the test run with a load on and under power is jet to be done.
I did use the wire and winch earlyer on a bruder model. and it took the load easy. and as a bonus it tore the bruder model apart.
at this point it just wait and see, even for me.

Hi
lately I've been doing some work on the tippingtrailer. and some small work on the truck.
The truck was waiting for some electric bits and pieces. they have arived. so I've got to do some wirering next weekend.
the truck just got new front rims, an new rearbumper and the dashboard added.

the trailer is nearly ready. the only thing now is to make it brand new, or like it's 10 years old.

if the trailer is gooing to look 10 years old. the truck should look like that to. the "used but looked after" look

I had some practice on the weathering of an cab.
this 2800 is nog going to have a must a the cab i practiced on.
the look for that cab. was "left at the back of the yard for a year or 2" waiting for a donor truck or the breaker

a few pictures.

the clean cab.

I first added some braun, not from rust, but the stuff that happens to fiberglass panels when trees are around.

some grey added to the effect.

and moss grows in a few months so I added green.
maybe not the right color green yet.
but hey It's my first attemt.

there is a thing on youtube with a tarp. I want to try on the truck.
and I want to add a bird of two. and all the stains they produce.

next up is a bruder container I want to have a well used look.
when I'm happy withe that result I want to try to age the lowdeck trailer of the 2800

any comments on the weathering are welcom.

Hi
I is hard to stop weathering, and it's easy to go wrong. in case of this cab. it's not meant to go on a truck again. maybe it gets its place next to a workshop on shows. I had read that dark colors are hard to get a weathered look on. but the cab was in these colors. zo I had to deal with it.

next was a bruder container that is getting a used look.
this is suposed to look like is't still in use. but for a long time already.
one thing what needs my attention. the origial bleu in the hard to reach places. really stand out in the picture.
first up was the flat grey.

after that I did the rear.

and with doing the label section I got the idea to do my logo on the side.

.

the front and other side have to be worked on. and maybe it's going to be an open top container. than I also have to do the inside.

some new video's

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h70qTLbsWxY

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbY42JS16MY

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NVdigYC2ho

the 3axle trailer is changed. the drawbar is set even lower. and the truck and trailer have fenders on the rear wheels now.
the front fender for the trailer will have a cornerlight on. I'm just figuring out how to do that.
and I need to put some brake's on the trailer.

Hello Peter,

built, not bought. Therefore i love this kind of modelling. The cabs are very cool and looks great. Very well done with the roll off system.

this weekend we had a show. unforunatly no skid with sand. so we had taken the offroad trucks and machine's to the show. most of it sat unused on the table.
I was able to shoot some video's
this is one where the small dozer is climbing the old trailer.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOMbw9wers0.

I know it's short.
