Default My trailer build

Now that my King Hauler is pretty much complete now its time to start with the trailers, Im going with a pair of Tamiya Flatbeds, joined by a single axle dolly. Up until the past weekend it was just going to be the basic trailers although painted to compliment my Hauler. The trailers were already built so stripped them down and painted chassis black and the upper section blue.

Whilst at a local model boatshow I came accross a seller who had a 1/12 crane and although different scale it in my eyes was sufficiently close enough and I had to have one. It is resin and the kit was of awesome quality... now built I decided to mount it in centre of front trailer, shortening the bed planks and making up the mount section from plasticard.

Light wire hasbeen cut as Im going to make different connectors to look like suzies (hopefully), and I have also made an extension up so that 2nd trailer will hook lights up to front one.

That is amazing! Is the crane functional, if not can it be made to be functional?

Thanks for all the great comments,

Terry it isnt functional just a resin model that can be built in two ways like I have it and extended. I would doubt it could be made functional.

UK Trucker Im pretty sure that its likely to go that way. would be a good load for it.

I've seen trailers like that used to haul precast concrete pipes too. Great work!

Brilliant! If you could somehow get or make a few pallets of scale bricks, this thing would look to incredible.

I have made some scale pallets for one of the missus trailers and having pondered it for a while I plan to make more. I do know that you can get 1/12 scale bricks for dolls houses so maybe they would look alright, guess there is one way to find out. Would also have liked to see if could get the bags they deliver sand in to scale... not found anything yet

Cheers all.

Now I know its a long shot but...at Gaydon last year there was a modeller from either Carlisle or Cheshire who was there with his mum, they had some realy nice scale 1 tonne bags with a corn merchants name on them. Can't remember what the cab was but think it might have been a Scania and it was built as a flat bed with a drag with an option of a cattle float. Think they also had a bruder DHL curtainsider container too.

Sorry to be vague but it was a miserable wet day and nearly a year ago.

If u dont mind me asking, what did the crane cost? Also does the builder have a site where he sells his kits?

Also it really fits the bill as you said the scale still looks spot on, keep up the great work and keep the pics coming.

You might just get away with 1/12 scale bricks, I am sure it would work ok.

For sand bags and/or the large 1 ton sacks, I am pretty sure you could make them pretty easily at home. Get an old white shirt, a thin one and cut some rectangles out, roughly the size you want and sew two pieces together around 3 sides. Fill with Silicone sand, it's nice and fine. Silicone sand is what they use as bedding on top of the hardcore before putting down cobble locking driveways, allows the cobbles to settle level. They then sweep a few bags of it over the drive way, it's so fine, it will work it's way down the gaps to tighten it all together. You could then leave the tops open and sit some open bags on a pallet with some straps around them all, or sew up the opening and pile them on the flat onto a pallet and strap them to the pallet over the top.

Just some ideas....

At moment its just screwed to a piece of plasticard that is painted black and sits on a few blocks of wood that are glued to chassis so it clears the trailer light wire. Bit basic but does the job.

Nice slow progress like always I bought some 1mm rubber sheet off ebay and made a mudflap for trailer, will be doing same for the other trailer and dolly when they are done.
