Default hyd cyl measurement

When building or ordering cyls for an excavator, how do you measure?
Would you measure from mount pin to pin in the closed and extended position or is there a better way? I am looking at Clippard listing, but not sure how to decide on what cyl for what.
Thanks
Terry

What you mention is the way to take the measures. (For hydraulic cylinders, you may have a look at parts and complete cylinders Magom Rc is offering, the ones suited for M5 fittings/4mm hoses)
