Default Half round end dump trailer

I have been slowly working on this for a customer but I do plan to make this a regular production piece if there is any interest. The trailer started out as a Tamiya flatbed which I shortened slightly at the rear. The customer also wanted add a third axle so he ordered a drop axle from Exclusive RC and I mounted it up. I modified the axle assembly slightly so that it was the same width as the stock axles(duals on all axles) and everything looks just right. The box will be dumped using a screwdrive setup with limit switches. I am building another box at the same time that is slightly different. It has angled bends resembling the shape of a rain gutter. I will post up pictures of it when I get a little more done on it. It does not have a home yet and will go up for sale as soon as it's finished.

Thanks Guys. It will be a while before it's up and running Justin but I will for sure post some video when the time comes.

I'm not absolutely sure on a total price yet Wayne but I'm thinking that a tandem axle setup will be around $1050-1100CAD. That would be the complete deal, powder coated whatever color, and ready to be wired up to an ESC and power supply. Added axles or details such as ladders, spare tire mounts or whatever would be a little more. This customer has been great and sent me the brand new trailer so that I could modify it as needed and send it back when it is completed. If someone else wanted to do the same then of course the cost of the trailer would come off of the total price(around $250CAD). If I could get the trailers cheaper then my price would be less. The best deal I have been able to find is RC4WD at $189.99US plus shipping and exchange. Anyone know of anything cheaper?

Thanks very much for the compliment and for shipping the lift axle my way. Yep, Keith is a good(and patient) man. This is the second project I have done for him as he is already running one of my dump boxes on a truck. It's a sweet lookin rig too....Too bad he hasn't posted any pictures of it on here...hint hint!lol

Reg

Tower Hobbies sells the trailers at that same price, but free shipping (domestic) for tower hobbies members. if you have coupons available, it could be as cheap as $173.99 shipped.....I just picked up a reefer for $339 shipped via tower

This is going to be a beautiful trailer once she's done...I see these trailers popping up at truck shows all over in the near future...I plan on getting one myself, but one thing at a time first...

Nice Job

Here's a bit of an update on this. I finished up the fenders and started on the frame underneath. Once the frame is finished I will make the tailgate and then get started on the dump mechanism.

Looks fantastic Reg. I'm a big fan of the half round dump trailers, I Mau be interested in one of them in the future. I really think you should make it a regular production item.

Progress on this has been really slow but it is coming along. I finally machined the tailgate and mounted it in place. I also finished the front bulkhead...

Between other shop work, fairly steady commercial fishing since January, a couple of personal projects, and some recent speed bumps in the road of life I really haven't made much progress on the two trailers I have committed to over the past few months. I have to be honest and say that I have struggled a little with what to use and how to use it as far as the lift is concerned. Maybe my personal expectations are too high for function vs. looks or maybe they aren't? I have come up with a lift now that will tip 20lbs of evenly distributed gravel without too great of an issue at a reasonable speed. Do you guys think that is respectable or should I be going for more?

Thanks, Reg

Any guess as to how heavy 1.5 gallons of that is? I am thinking that what I was testing with is close to that volume but I'm not sure. I only weighed it...

Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks for the input guys. I kind of thought this may require more power so I had ordered a more powerful motor a few weeks ago. Since I had to make new brackets to mount the shaft and motor in it's revised location I thought I might as well try the better motor while I was at it. I am very pleased with the results. Now I can finish up some odds and ends on this one and get some more parts made for yours Alex!

Looking good Reg. Like the style of that one. Water is 10 pounds to the gallon so your lifting good. Since I upgraded the screw drive in the FWD it will lift a 30 lb bag of lead. Like you, I went to a bigger threaded rod 5/16" but instead of a steel nut I made the slider out of delron and taped it with a 5/16 tap. Just amazing how slipery the stuff is and now there's no friction at all.
