Default Pike Steam Show Aug 10-12

I'm getting excited about the Pike Steam Show August 10-12. I'll probably get there Wednesday late afternoon, camping as usual.

Got my dragline all tuned up and ready to go! I put two new drive motors in and cleaned, inspected and otherwise serviced the machine. I swapped out the Econ spur gear motors for some nice planetary units just like what I run on the Oliver dozer. Now I'm on to the dump truck, conveyors and just getting it all ready. I haven't used it since last year!

QUESTION: I'm looking for some 3D Print designs for static job site stuff to print out and bring along. Stuff like safety fence sections, port-a-potty, oil drums, pallets, and whatever. If you have idea of other typical stuff and especially if you have or know where to find the stl files I would like to start printing this stuff now.

Hope to see some of you there!

Jim

Glad to hear the machines are getting updated, can't wait to see it.

You'll probably have to scale these up/down, no idea if there's enough detail on them to work.

Frizz,

Thanks for the links! I searched a bit but wasn't finding any of those! I used 1:14 scale and maybe RC Truck for terms. Do you recall how you searched?

Just noticed the other day your comment about working on planes that small. Are you an A&P with a major airline or something like that?

I know most printers let you scale stuff, so i wasn't worried about the As Designed size. Like 1/24 scale enlarged to around 200% should be in the ballpark.

I forget the exact terms, i think it was stuff like: Outhouse, Barrel, Ladder, Construction...

Pole barn / warehouse under construction.

With some magnets you could probably assemble by crane.

There are too many pallets on there to pick just one.
Engine gives lots of hits if you need stuff to strap to a pallet, or stands, or hoists.

If you have a flatbed trailer, you need to do one of these. I can send shipping cradle pics.

Yeah i'm an A&P mechanic, have my FCC GROL, I work Avionics at an MRO. Mostly 737s. Hit me on pm if ya want to talk about it, instead of out on open board.

Did a bit of tuning to the short conveyor, it was binding on the new belt guard.

I decided to shoot a bit more video on the sand pile. Im using both conveyors, the drag line and the dozer to load a barge. Ill have all this stuff and my Tonka dump truck at the show. (well, except for the boats. I would actually like to bring the boats too but it adds another level of complexity to the layout. Maybe the Cabin Fever Show? If I could get a small pond nearby to our dirt pile that would be AWESOME.

They actually have a big pond at Cabin Fever for the RC boaters. Unfortunately it's in a completely different building.

Zabco,

Thanks for the link, I was looking for something like the pipe gate!

I have been to CF a couple times and I do spend some time at the boat pond. Ya, I really would need a very small pond within only a few feet of or even directly next to the dirt pile so it would look like a loading area similar to my backyard pond layout. That way truck drivers could haul dirt to the stock pile where it could be loaded on barges.

I never have developed a way to unload a barge but that would be the complete deal! Load barges at one point, push them around to the other end of the layout with the tow boat and unload, load back into trucks and do it all again!

I'll keep dreaming...

You could still run the barge on the sediment pond at Brownsville. You know, the one that was supposed to be 2' deep but turned out to be 5' when the jeep blew an engine trying to cross last year

I'll call Alan to see if his dad wants to bring his boats. He told me that they'd like to come to the show sometime.

What about using a small kiddy pool? For your pond!
Cheers, Neil.
