Default So what was everyone's first truck?

After seeing the level of custom builds on here, and me starting with just a cab, I got to wondering what others started with. Post up with what your first truck was, stock or modded, etc.
Also, feel free to post up your start in RC period, how long you've been RC'ing, your first RC, not necessarily just the truck aspect.

Did you have prior experience in RC and/or scratch building RC's before the terragator?

The truck that started it all for me about 6 years ago. I bought this for $289 off the 'Bay, and was 100% turn-key with radio, batt, and charger.

My first RC "Big Rig" was a Wedico Freightliner COE and container trailer.
I purchased it from a dealer in Jolly ole England.
I assembled it but had no way to charge the battery. Hobby shops just laughed at me when I took the battery pack and asked for help. So it sat on a shelf until my first move. Then it got packed up and stayed that way for about 15 years. One day about 6 years ago while rearranging my basement. I came across the box. I decided to google Wedico and I found PMD.
My first RC truck was Tamiya Hilux. I still have an 80's Tamiya Ford Ranger with 2 bodies and a Wild Willy. I tried RC helecopters back in the 80's as well. Decided keeping things on the ground was cheaper that letting them find the ground at high rate of speed.

My first truck and in progress truck is a Tamiya King Hauler. I am more in the construction side of things so never really pursued a truck really. I am currently in the process of money hoarding for a $7500 dollar Cat excavator. Should have it by end of next summer. Pretty pumped about it. Anyways, I really like the Tamiya trucks because they have such huge potential for anything. The things some of these guys come up with are just outstanding.

My first RC's were Tamiya Fox and RC10 back in the 80's. Then I did nitro and electric on road Associated and HPI. Never kept any of them was always selling to get a new one. I was a military kid so I loved building static aircraft models and I had so many planes my ceiling was covered. Mom tossed them all when I was in college and I haven't built one since. RC combined with scaleness was appealing so I bought a Globe to make a k100 for my first big rig.

Default Re: So what was everyone's first truck?

I got my first hobby grade model in '2000. It was a second hand E-Maxx, which I ran a few times and then quickly sold. I found out I really liked the rock crawlers, which were still in their infancy back then. I bought a new Tamiya TXT-1 and built it up, with plenty of modifications. I can't build anything stock. Then the truck morphed into a Clod axled TXT-1, and then was disassembled. I still have everything I need to put it back together the way it was. One day I will. To remind of where it all started. I've had plenty of go fast trucks through the years and lots of scale/crawler 4x4s, but I got into the big rigs about 2004, I think. With a King Hauler. I chopped it up as soon as I opened the box. Made a day cab out of it, shaved the headlights, ect. I later bought a new Aeromax and a second hand Aeromax from Paul. But shortly after, the Wedico bug got me and I sold all my Tamiya rigs, never having actually driven one. I like to build'em more then run them, but to this day I have not driven any semis yet. My Wedico is going to be my first! If I ever finish it. The more I see these trucks - Tamiya's and Wedicos - the more I feel like selling most of my other RC models off and getting just into this end of the hobby. I would also like some heavy equipment someday too, but probably not until the Wedico Pete is finished. I also have another Wedico Pete sitting in the boxes yet. That one will be easy to build, once I figure out everything I want to do with my current one! All the little things that annoy me about the Wedicos, I will have the solutions for.

My first truck was a Tamiya MB 1838LS with flatbed trailer which I purchased used and converted over to a race-truck :

( I believe it was in 1999 , since that photo is from 2000 )

That truck was later converted to a 6x4 ,

and then followed by a few Globeliners and King Haulers .

Did get right away a few Wedico trailers ,

but my first Wedico truck didn’t get in to my truck-collection till last year .

My first R/C car was a Tamiya Blackfoot in 1985
Follow right away by a Clod Buster ,
And then I was hooked on the Tamiya’s
And during a business trip to Japan , I went in to a wild shopping-spree ,
since you could still find the already discontinued ( these days collector cars ) ,
and I came back home with my first Tamiya Bruiser , Wild Willy and others .
After discovering ebay , I went crazy again and within a few years I had my collecting of the first 100 Tamiya R/C cars and kits started .
To get in to a list of R/C cars I have these days would be way to long ,
But my collecting starts with kit # 1 , the 1/12 scale Tamiya Porsche ( R/C version )

Besides the R/C cars I did also build and collect all the Tamiya R/C and non R/C tanks in 1/16 scale

Non R/C model-building goes back till my school age , started late 60’s …

Early / mid 70’s I started building R/C model-ships with my dad .
Since the mid 80’s I am now hooked on the R/C cars and G-scale trains
and since the 90’s on the R/C trucks and R/C flying as well.

Here is my first truck but not my first R/C.

My first R/C I got in 1981 and it was a Semi a Hot Wheels car hauler so I guess you could say I have been a mini trucker for 29 years. Here are some pics and I even still have the box. My parents bought it for me after a lot of begging and the fact that it was put on sale for more than half off for a Christmas present and this was considered my main gift and I loved it that is why I still have it... This was a big deal to me as we did not have much money when I was growing up so now you can see why I have so many now I can afford it and I am making up for lost time. Any way here are the pics

My first truck was a Nikko Hummer, probably 1/16th scale.

My first full on RC car was a Stampede

And my first true truck, was Big Bird, my Globeliner, so I'm going to vote box stock Tamiya.

Okay, guess I might as well reply in my own thread lol.
I started back in 85'ish with a Tamiya Hornet, then a Blackfoot, and then a Super Champ. I did a little racing at the LHS, and then got a Tamiya Hilux and Kyosho Big Bear or something. I was on a long hiatus until about 6 years ago when I had a little extra time and money so I started Googling around on RC trucks and came across crawlers and scalers. I built a TLT based crawler and have been on scalers since. I forget when I saw the King Hauler for the first time, but ever since I've had it in mind to buy one one of these days and build the Pork Chop Express from Big Trouble in Little China. Currently my RC interest is varied, I have a micro heli, several scalers, starting a super class crawler and several boats in the pipeline, as well working on a Volvo build so I fit in on this forum.

I started out with this tractor with flatbed trl in '96

And later turned it into this in '99

It was about '99 when I cemented my friendship with Lorenz and he got me some nifty parts from Germany to slow my trk down! The wdc hyds I got from the 1st wdc dealer for NA, Tom Vandenburg from West Virgina. Got the Stahl loader from him too in '97, that loader ran around like a race car, poor lift height... hated that thing & I just about didn't buy another rc construction model from that experience... major regret paying so much for a model that ran so poorly.

I had no prior rc experince before the king hauler.

@ fhhhstix, I was 9 in 81 and have no recollection of that rig, I did have a couple Hot Wheels Steering Rigs though that got a lot of road time!
Thanks for posting, I haven't thought about those Steering Rigs in years, also remember Kay Bee Toys.
