Frame catwalk material.
I've seen a few trucks that have some nice material used for the catwalk between the frame rails that actually looks like a catwalk not just a solid piece of metal, but haven't been able to find where they got it. So if anyone can help me out and point me in the right direction that would be great. I need a way to hide my fifth wheel servo and I'm not a fan of the solid plate.

Re: Frame catwalk material.
Thanks for the links Mario. The first is almost dead on. Would like to see how it looks covering the frame though. I wish I could find the pics of the couple of trucks that I really like the catwalks on. Not sure if they were metal or plastic though.

Re: Frame catwalk material.
Guys...
I found the generic equivalent: its medical bracing/splint material. I got a 12" x 3.75" section for $2.10, locally (rolled gently). If that's enough width/length-wise, its a good buy. But it does come in longer rolls medically, and bigger pieces commercially... Michaels craft stores (among other places) also carry it in sheets: (had to use Google to find it, 'cause Michaels search engine is CR*P) http://www.michaels.com/activa-activ.../10289357.html Its proper name (to google-search) is: Activa Activ-Wire Mesh. One seller on eBay has 12" x 24" pieces (folded) for just over $6.99 & shipping, Michaels' price is $4.99 (Cdn). It does come in various grades, measured by the mesh openings. HobbyLobby, www.Sandtastik.com and apparently even Walmart has it as well, and in the following sizes/grades: 1/4"x1/8", 1/8"x1/16", & 1/4"x1/8" rolls at 2'x10'. If you want to look about, its generic name is 'expanded aluminum mesh'. Use this name if you ask at a metal shop. Hope that helps you out, WhiteWolf PS: if you want a pic of mine with sommat RC in the image, like my King Hauler chassis, hollar. Last edited by WhiteWolf McBride; 10-11-2014 at 10:39 AM. Re: Frame catwalk material.
Arrgg...
I found a site that had 9" x 10" (I think) sheets of perforated metal, with round holes, square ones, and even hex patterning... and then I ~stupidly dinna mark the damned thing... All I can remember is I was looking at various RC items - Losi Trail Trekker, the Tamiya semis, trailers, High-Lift's & crawlers, and somehow came across this site and there were the sheets, all in a row. I've tried looking at my IE history, no joy. I did find an eBay seller for auto-grilles, and they are decent if ya want big pieces (6" x36") but I can't seem to find this site again. Just Found It! http://www.TheToyz.com and use the Quick Search box on the right side, plug in " Window or Grille Netting " and you'll get the options. Sadly, I was mistaken on the size... 4" square pieces... but mebbe he'll sell bigger chunks? WhiteWolf Last edited by WhiteWolf McBride; 10-17-2014 at 06:41 PM. |

Re: Frame catwalk material.
I also found an eBay dealer...
He sells the pieces for automotive grillework, and I've asked him if he would cut the 6" x 36" pieces into two 6" x 18" sections to save on shipping cost for Canadian shipping, and he said YES! The hex 6x36" sheet is here: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/190630630977 His eBay ID is 'CustomCarGrills': http://stores.ebay.ca/customcargrill...p2047675.l2563 I haven't bought any of his stuff yet, but may get a sheet of the 6x36 sheet to replace the wooden decking on my Carson STN-L3 lowboy trailer. Hope this helps ya out even more... WhiteWolf |

Re: Frame catwalk material.
For what its worth...
I'll take a pic of the mesh that I salvaged from a desktop tray in the local Dollar Store, for size reference. But for reference, the diamond mesh is 4 per inch wide, 6 per inch tall. I could ask him to take a picture of the respective pieces with a sheet of graph paper as backing material - though the ruler is on the images... Dunno what the mesh-size is on the stuff from TheToyz... but was thinking of asking him I bigger pieces could be had... like mebbe 4" x 12" at least. Anyone interested? WhiteWolf |
