Default CABIN FEVER EXPO APRIL 2013

The Cabin Fever Expo is upon us again this April 12-14th.
http://www.cabinfeverexpo.com/
We will have plenty of space for the road trucks and of course a very large
pile of dirt to work the construction equipment on. I heard from the curator that
there is in the works; a bridge to cross over the large boat pond. I'll get some more info on that so the ramps will be the correct grade for the trucks.
Lets have a roll call on who will be attending and with what so I can coordinate the space we will need to put on a nice show for the general public.
This is a very large show of all kinds of model engineering projects and displays and there is plenty to see.
Here's a view of the dirt pile from the 2012 show.

From all of the people i have talked with on the phone it sounds like there will be a few excavators, a few front end loaders and plenty of dump trucks..we just need a bull dozer or 2 and a roller then we would be all set to make some roads..

Seriously though..this show has the potential to be the Coolest and biggest indoor "real dirt" RC Construction Equipment show in North America if everyone would embrace the opportunity. The area that they provide us is huge and give is as much dirt as we ask for. AND the spectators on Saturday just love to sit and watch is run. It is usually 3 people deep around the digging area with spectators and Saturday.

Steve (9W) and myself show up on Friday afternoon when they bring in the HUGE pile of dirt. We shovel and stomp the dirt down to make roads and a flat spot for his large drag line.

Last years dirt was Terrible! It was a bunch of tiny stones mixed in with the dirt and was bad for tracked vehicles. Hopefully it doesn't stop some people from coming back again..So, that is our only stumbling block is to know what kind of dirt to ask for and they will provide it.

The dirt the year before was awesome. Can they get us that dirt again Steve (9W)?

I talked to the dirt guy this afternoon and we will be getting 2 loads of topsoil. We will be experimenting with trying to glue Black Beauty sand basting media together with flour to simulate a vein of coal 4'' thick. The slabs will be buried under the dirt pile and I will uncover it with the dragline. The material will crumble apart when the loaders and hoes scratch at it. Then it can be loaded out in dump trucks. Hope this works out.
I still need to get an idea on how much room the road guys need so I can cordon that area off before the show fills up so we don't have to push other exhibitors out of the way like last year.
I plan on getting there later in the afternoon on Thursday or the latest, Friday morning to get the area setup.

This show is geared towards scale model engineering dealing with steam, gas ,sterling type engines trains boats. Machine shop supplies tools machinery raw materials. Basically it's for craftsmen showing what they have built from scratch or machined rough casting kits. There is a few vendors selling CNC machinery .
This is the 3rd year with our end of the hobby starting to take hold. There has been a RC boat group there for at least 12+yrs.
Being this is the first time the show has been in April rather than January, there could be just about anything engine or machinery related show up on the outside flea market area.
I think as time goes on and exhibitors & venders in our spectrum get interested, more parts will be for sale there.
One thing I must warn anybody wanting to sell, you will have to register as a vendor. Or keep it between yourselves. The show owners are very strict about this because they fork out a huge amount of money to rent the building and they also don't want the show turning into just a flea market.

I just about ready for the show. 9W back together and ready to load.
Working on casting the blocks of coal for the loaders and shovels.
Thinking about stanchions for my trailing cable so trucks can drive under.
Still need to try to fix my Tournarocker's one motor drive. And possibly
try to get the Sand Master conveyor's motor drive installed.
I need to add an extension to the legs. How much do I need to add
so the 1/14th trucks will fit under it?

Wow, judging from the photos, and hearing of the expansion with a bridge crossing a boat pond, this event stands a good chance of becoming something that could almost rival the German expos! That's really cool!
