The height seems a tad high. Thinking of moving the hood hinge down .150" - .200" to bring the fender closer to the tire.

Are you using a single nozzle printer and building the supports with the same material that the part is printed in.

I have access to a small makerbot but I haven't really used it yet. The plastic rolls for the machine are very costly in my opinion. They do have a water soluable plastic that you can build the gussets out of if you have a dual nozzle machine. But that stuff is very pricey too.

It is great seeing someone use some of the great Technology available to us for this hobby.

I'm currently learning to use autodesk inventor. I'm trying to make a few molds to do some vacuum forming with.

Keep up the good work anxious to see the rest of the build.

Top, My machine is a single nozzle. The Printers software builds the support material automatically based on the design. The vacuum forming molds is a great idea. Post up some pics when you get some, Thanks

A few pics of my progress, I need to cut about 1/2" off the bottom of the cab and im shortening the frame 1 1/8". I decided to use a different brand of ABS for the doors as its easier to remove the support material from such fragile areas.
Cab consists of 10 separately printed parts and feels very sturdy now thats its assembled. But, something doesnt seem right. I cant tell what it is about the way it looks. the hood is too long,or the side windows are too big. Maybe the angled roof is making look weird. looks more like a Duece and half to me than a 900B. Maybe after i get further it will look better to me.

I agree something looks a little off though.... I don't think it's the windows. It's the top rear edge of cab seems to slope a little different than the autocad drawing you posted a few days ago? Maybe that is causing the deuce look?

Thanks guys, Mario, i think your right. I did modify the cab a little since my original drawing. I was leaning in this direction...


Ok looking for some feedback on this. I changed the roof line. Top is what i printed, bottom is redesigned and more like the original drawing i posted on page 1.

It could just be an optical delusion from the 2 different colors. Either way its coming together nicely

Your hood is too short heightwise and has no slope to it. Grille is too low & too much fender at the front.

Looking at the 1:1 you posted, the bottom of the cab is almost even with the top of the fenders... that's always been one prominent feature of the KW is what a tall hood they have.

I think Joe is right about the KW look and the big hood with the cab sitting along the top of the fender. That alone would change the look a lot.

Im not being a critic. I know absolutely nothing about 3D printers, saw auto cad at a university back in the mid 90's once but when someone is doing something as epic as this build, I feel it's only proper to share honest opinions and try to help out

Joe, your absolutely right. Forget the roof line...The fender height to the bottom of the door is way off. I never saw that before. Along with a few other things. Back to the drawing board. Thanks for the observations.

Mario, thats exactly what i was looking for...Ive been looking at it and it just wasnt working out somehow. The pic i posted was just for the roof design, but the fender to door height is the same from 900L to 900B either way so...Ive got alot to learn when it comes to modeling. But whats great about this process is i can go back and make some changes and reprint. Its prototyping. Thanks for the help guys!

Could you section the hood with a saw, then reprint what's needed where ever?

I suppose proper centering/starting point might be a problem?

I think your on the right track..I did find this vector drawing that may help as well to compare ...just google kenworth w900 vector drawings and see what you come up with in images as well..You did a very nice job removing the extra support material..how do you go about doing that ?..Great thread ..
