Default cheap pneumatic cylinders

So there is not a lot of info around about using these for hydraulics in models so i though i would share my findings, there is no wiper seal on them it seems as though there is a sleeve of some sort where the rod comes out, you can see in pics below there what looks like part of a cable tie on the bottom of the piston and a seal on the top, 3 of my rams leak around the top end cap but 1 doesn't leak at all, this maybe where my geometry is wrong and there is side load on the rams which allows it to weep, its not massive after about 40mins of running there is enough to cover your finger tip. Inside of the cylinder is finished like a mirror and the cylinder wall is 2mm thick.

I have about 10hours runtime on them now at 30bar and i am very pleased.

I have been using McMaster-Carr air cylinders for years now with Liembach hyd pumps and spools ( 10-15 bar ) The cylinders are still going strong with no oil leaks.

Hi, any chance you can post the links to each? (1) McMaster-Carr air cylinders for years now with (2) Liembach hyd pumps and (3) spools

Trying to find an alternative to running hydraulic oil... from what I can tell from reading, you use same components, just air vs oil?

I believe they are talking about using air cylinders to run hydraulic oil in. You do not want to run air in the cylinders or the model would act real jerky and not smooth. Like when you dump the load out of the bucket the arms would pop to the top end kind of jerky moves

Auh, i see... thanks for clearing that up Pugs... steep learning curve here, but I'll get there. In that case, I suspect I'll be going electric on the cylinders since hydraulic still seems too complex/pricey for me at this time.
