Default New King Hauler Project

Hi All,

I have just finished building a King hauler, and am about to start some modifications to it, including a 65T motor, 4" stretch, bull pipes, Texas front fender, bow tie visor and colour matched double hump fenders. These should be going on in the next couple of weeks as all the parts just turned up today.

Here is a link to my new member thread where I just put some initial pictures.

http://www.rctruckandconstruction.co...ead.php?t=9443

I had a few technical questions which I was hoping someone might be able to answer...

Firstly, I got the recommended fender mounting brackets with my double hump fenders, but I have no idea how they are supposed to be installed, would anyone have an idea?

Next, I am keen to try and centre my throttle stick on my controller (Spektrum Dx6i), but was thinking instead of getting the parts from Spektrum, maybe I could swap the parts from the rudder channel to the throttle channel, so the gear shift is un-sprung, but the throttle is. Has anyone heard of doing such a thing before? Could the parts be swapped from one 'gimbal' to the other?

Lastly I am having some difficulties getting the transmission into all gears. I am confident it is built correctly, I think it is just the servo not giving enough throw, is there a specific servo known to work really well with the 3 speed tranny?

Thanks,
Matt

On mounting the fenders. the larger bracket (should be 2) will slide into the frame rails. one for each end of the fenders, the four "L" brackets attach to the inside of the fenders along the lower side of the fenders ( the slot side will go to the frame bracket for height adjustment) then you use the hardware you got with the kit to attach the "L" brackets to the frame mounts . You will have to do some trial fitting to make sure they are where you want them before attaching them to the fenders.....

Hope this helps

My dx6i came with a gimbal centering kit
and the two types of metal strips

th
the smooth one is for the spring kit,
there is also how to you tube videos or you local rc shop should be able to do it, but most people usual have one spring loaded,
Also in the dx6i manual there are instructions for changing a mod 1 to a mod 2 and vise versa so you can have the spring stick on the side you prefer when you go into the program settings

Cheers Tracy

Hi bigford you raise a good point. I haven't actually driven it outside yet, only inside in a tiny space about 3x the size of the truck. Perhaps I'll try out without the spring first and see.

Thanks flatdeck. It took me a while but then i finally got what you meant ha! So they just wedge in there then? I guess the fenders aren't exactly the heaviest of things in the world.

Thanks Tracy. I will try it without the spring in first when I finally drive the truck outside once all the mods are done and the trailer built. I just had a reply from horizon hobby who distribute that radio in the UK and they said they can send me the kit for about £7.

Hi all, spent most of the weekend installing new parts, here are the results...

Made a pig's ear of the rear fenders the photos don't really show but the tyres are too close and were touching the brackets so had to bend them out in all sorts of directions. They rub a bit when driving over bumps but I think I can live with it.

Also had to move the steps forwards slightly as the pipes would not clear. Probably the most rewarding thing was tidying the wiring!

So a request for opinions, I want to cover the exposed frame rail and replace the little plastic switch plate, but am undecided what to do. I wanted to cover the whole thing with tread plate but am now thinking just a plain semi gloss black sheet might look pretty cool. What do you think?

Also not sure what to do with the back end. The original bumper just doesn't look right, and I am sure the frame rails seem longer than on some modded trucks? Do people cut these short, and does anyone have any pictures of what might look good here?

Thanks for looking!

Nice install on the fenders.... Sometimes just a little push in the right direction helps......

Ask all the questions you have to keep going the right way.....

Hi all thanks for the comments.

They are from PMD, www.gardentrucking.com the pipes are the bull pipes.

So I wanted to make use of the lights that came with the MFC so I decided to drill the front bumper. Put in some running lights (I know they are normally amber but wanted to use what I had). I also put in some fogs and reused the original lenses to cover them...

Also finished up the box trailer too. Wow those panels are rattley! I am tempted to paint it to match the tractor but don't want it to look too toy-like. I was also thinking of adding some amber running lights along the trailer too.

Just waiting for some final bits to turn up to finish off the tractor. Will post some pictures once it's done.

Thanks for looking.

agree, leave the panels in the aluminium with the green trim and put your company name on the trailer in green, that would look good and not "Toy like"

Thats a very nice king. i agree with the paint on the trailer. i would get rid of rear fenders on trailer and hang some mudflap brackets and some quarter fenders from the king in front of trailer tandems. very nice upgrades!!!
