Default RC4WD CVT

Saw this for the first time today: http://store.rc4wd.com/EcoDrive-114-...ks_p_4897.html

Could be an interesting alternative for onroad- trucks. Not sure how it would hold up in a 6x6 dump truck..

I noticed that on rcbrmin's website a few weeks back but that's the first video I've seen of it working. I can see how it would work well but only if you used the motor they recommended and it seems awfully fast. I could be totally wrong but years ago a few of my friends had Polaris ATV's with the CVT's. They worked OK if you left the motors stock but when they started changing the power and torque curves of the engine it threw the trans off. The end result was you had to modify weights and springs in the tranny's to make the "shift" correctly with the changed motor. I wonder if it would work if you ran an 80 turn motor or a reduction ahead of the trans?

You can buy 5 decent geared motors for that price and get the same performance.

they say it gets hot during operation. Looks good for an on-road car but not in the world of crawling dump trucks.

Seams like a quite high gear ratio, in total..The coupling possible not take that high torque, so is intended for being placed near to a high rev, low torque motor, and then followed by a big ratio to get some good torque out of the transfere box. Maybe best suited for the ones who don't mind high rev noicy motors..and things would move too slow with a 5000-8000 rpm engine..? Would be interesting seeing it hooked up to a low rpm, engine

I think it's more geared towards highway trucks, I bet it would burn up the belt with a heavy load

Lesu axles are 1:3.09, Tamiya standard is 1:2.7 Many consider the Lesu axles as top of the line when it comes to 1:Tamiya scale, great for construction/offroad/heavy haul
