Default Sleeper upgrades

So I have the Monogram 1/16 Aerodyne W900. The sleeper is the 60" hi rise with only the two forward roof windows and a bunch of rivets surrounding the panels.

I am going to be stretching this sleeper 7/8th of an inch to increase it to the 74" size. I will remove the door from the the right side and install a window as well as a rear window. These are both features of the larger Pete sleepers. Lastly I intend to add some panel reshaping to give it that old Mercury sleeper paneling.

Now for my dilemma i wish to give my sleeper that true Mercury vibe with the polished aluminum but am at a loss for methods. I have the "bare metal" foil but that stuff aint cheap and to send my peices out for chrome is not only out of budget but the wait time would drive me nuts.

Would chrome paint be a worthy method or would that fall flat, leaving me wanting? Also Ive seen the rivet peices used but unsure what I need to look for to replace my lost rivets.
