Default AMC Pacer 1975-77

The guys in my little town just keep finding odd 1/16 scale cars they think need built to play with the 1/14 Tamiya semis...

How about a 1975-77 AMC Pacer

This one says it's a 1977 model. I can't find anything saying 75-77 had differences, 78-80 had the raised hood.

These were made in 2006/07 by MotorMax as part of their 'Fresh Cherries' line. It was available in this Red, or Silver, Blue, or Yellow.

It's a mild custom that has big&little tires, some rake to the suspension, and louvers on the back windows. The side window louvers are removable, and i'll probably do that later. Rear window louver is molded in. Being a true 1970s car it even has some big ol' ugly plate bumpers screwed to the chassis under the scale body bumpers to protect them.

They had also had made a 1/16 Ford Pinto, i forget if it had either a cowl hood or an engine poked through the hood.

I picked up the 4 colors of this car from an AMC collector, all still New In Box! Catch me at the Lebanon, IN meet if you'd like one. Silver, Yellow, Blue are unclaimed.
Red spoke louder to my wife, so let's build!

Drop the car off at the mechanic with some parts.
Chineseieum esc, Towerpro sg90 plastic gear servo, 2 ch rx, and a 4 cell nimh rx pack.

Little while later he backs it down off the ramps.

Hot-rodded AMC gains some attention, from another AMC driver.

Boy, you in a heap of trouble...

Time for a quick reminder to everyone about STFU Friday:

Then you shut the fook up.

I took it out for an outside shake down run, and it really wasn't handling the babyhead rocks (gravel on street and driveway) very well, it was getting bounced all over the place.

Figured it was time to yank the lower plate back off the steering and mess around. I first knocked 0.200" off the steering kingpin tubes, shaved the tierod bar ends and structure a little. Put it back together and dropped some clicky pen springs down the holes. Same ride height, little more compliant over the bumps.

From the text in the box behind the car

"1977 AMC Pacer
The pacer was designed by richard teague in 1971 and first produced by amc in 1975. Its
round design was ahead of its time. A total of slightly over 280,000 were made during its 6
model years. It was offered as a comfortable, economy small car with a lot of glass for great
visibility. Very few of these are still running, and the ones that do, are classified as collectables."

I have 3 more of these available, still new in box thanks to an AMC collector out in Arizona. I'd prefer to sell them at the Lebanon 1950s meet sept 13-14, otherwise it adds shipping

Silver is claimed.
I still have Blue and Yellow Pacers available

Jerry, Do i seem like the kind of person that would buy an Antique, find out the given measurements were wrong, and then take an angle-grinder to it?

"Check out this 1 Weird Trick to increase your model shelf storage space: "

I might have spent too long at some of our events looking at a Mighty-Tonka car carrier with some 1/18 diecast cars chained down.

Tonka, Nylint, Structo usually get more of a feel for the 1940-50s era auto transporter trailers. I liked this one since it's a little bit later style but still looks cool, still shows off the lower deck cars, and looks a little closer to the hydraulic ones i'm used to. Plus it's got a better top-loading ramp than most.

Would need something like triple Sectioned, and likely also have to perform something like a station wagon Chop-top, maybe some stretch between C and D pillars?

A smart guy would have been better off to get a WPL D-12, couple styrene tricks to shrink the cab a little and turn a 1/10 Kei truck into a 1/14 Medium duty import truck like a Hino or Fuso, and build a bed into either a Ramp truck or Flatbed towtruck possibly with a wheel-lift.

Dude... if you use the aluminum channel from Lowes you can make the chassis any length you need. I use "B" frame rails for mounting references. I just narrow the rails to about 8mm ish so I can mount stuff to it...

No seriously, do *I* seem like the kind of person that would take an angle-grinder to an Antique?

(You're god damned right.)

The Aluminum extrusion channels could work, but somehow that seems kinda wrong for modifying pressed-steel toys. I was thinking more like tie it all back together with chunks of Mild Steel and some Argon. I really do like the JB Weld idea, that's way better than trying to form filler chunks with hammer & dolly work!

So um, i guess a Ferd Semi to drag around some old trailers might have pushed in front of that little Chebby U-haul... but then i've gotta think about Single or Tandem axle rig?

lol...Well ok then.... there you have it
Your toy was pretty clean and "may" of had some collector value but I've seen guys on the Tonka,Nylint board cut toys in the same or better condition into customs...
I don't know why but a single axle on the older trucks looks "right" to me... tandems work too but on the 50s style I think visually a single axle works...
Remember that WPL 47 international (or whatever it is) I did.... it's going to become a 55 Ford single axle ...
Now what are you going to do for the upper deck...same thing???

It had some collector value, but going off the color and hubcaps it was originally with a Turbine truck. The original sets of plastic cars usually go for more $$ than a car-hauler trailer anyway. I don't think they'll mind.

Chassis structure is getting widened with some 1/8" plates. (I still like the looks ya get from the guys driving too fast and careless "Oh man, i'm sorry i almost hit yours." Meh, my truck is full steel... you'd go crunch, i might get a dent?)

Upper deck and ramp will probably get some 16g for adding width. If i raise the roof it'll probably get some 1/8" in the pillars. If i pop the top, the Ramp-lengthen parts won't be much fun to make wheel guide profiles.

I figure a Car-carrier should be made to fit an AMC Pacer. It was "Americas first WIDE small car."

I like the blue, i'll probably try for similar color if i can't incorporate a nice looking 2-tone scheme. Longer term, a pair of Actuonix could handle tilt and little servo for ramp.

Yeah, Single-rear axle big trucks was a lot more common then, and vehicle gross weights weren't cranked way up yet

It sounds as though it's all reigonal, but generally Trailer Lengths up to the 1950s were 22-26 feet, up to 40 feet was allowed on highways after 1956
Then 34-36 feet in the 1960s
Then 45 feet in mid 1970s
Then 46-48 feet in the 1980s
Then up to 53 feet in the 1990s

Widths limited to 96" until the 1980s with 102" after
Height 12'6" bumped up to fon 13'6" interstate travel. (Not fogetting local restrictions such as the infamous 11'8" bridge.)
--
Anyway, i had a work thing send me to Jax FL, and over about a block from a beach i found a little Woody Wagon. Maybe like a 1949-50 ford, no title, surfer neglect... but i thought my dad could use an old project. (Reminded me way WAY too much of an old model kit 1949 Mercury wagon he was really proud of building.) Had to get the old "rent a truck" and a trailer to drag it back here since the Car Hauler isn't ready.

Steal chassis from 'Doms charger' / 'MadMax 2 Pursuit Special ' + a set of structo/nylint/tonka hubcaps since nobody makes steelies

https://www.macsmotorcitygarage.com/...to-1951-fords/
Calling it a 1950 ford 'Custom DeLux Wagon' or 'Country Squire Wagon'
