Default Tonka bottom dump conversion

Just finished a conversion on my tonka mighty bottom dump truck, thought some of your would like to see it. It dumps with a firgelli actuator.

Let me know what you think.

That's very cool!

Can we get some pics of what's been done to convert it?

Efroeh-
Your Tonka conversion looks GREAT! I'd like to convert my '68 Tonka Earthmover/Scraper/Pan someday.

Got some pictures today it was raining out so no in use videos. For the conversion I try to buy a used axial scx 10 scale truck. Basically tear it down use all electronics full axle assembles. Uses some aluminum to attach it to the frame. You have to cut some of the tonka frame down so the axle will sit were the tonka axle did. To move the bottom dump open and close used a firgelli actuator attached underneath to the closest one and a peace of aluminum attached the two openings. If any more question just ask. ( it makes sense in my mind but that doesn't mean it does for everybody else haha) on to pictures

The rear axle had to be narrowed so it would look proper.

All the electronics are under the cab for a nice clean look

I like it very clean and simple. As you start using it I am interested to see how well it works with out suspension travel.

I've used my tonka dump truck it's built the same way and it works great. You don't wanna set any speed records with it but it hauls heavy loads easily. I tried doing suspension when I built it. And it was impossible to get suspension and have it look like it wasn't converted also was hard to find something that would work once you put 30 lbs of material in it.

I've never seen a Tonka like that before... Great work on the conversion

What's the dimensions of the payload area?

Thanks I've never seen one either till ebay got ahold of me haha. The dimensions are 5 inches wide 11 inches long at the top. 7 long at the bottom and 5.5 deep to the opening in the bottom. It'll hold little over 4 liters of pea gravel.

Nice conversion! Not sure what type firgelli you have, operated by (RX or esc) but if your on a self centering stick or 3 postion switch with the "R" version (RX) you can grab a camera positioning module to hold the actuator at any place in the stroke. Could help with flow control out of the dump.

It's is the r version. With my spectrum reciever I can choose either a 2 position or 3p or linear which is basically hold the switch for as long as you want it to move. I just need more practice and I think I'll try a 3p next and set it for when the gravel is flowing at a even flow to drive. Just more work (play) time with it. I will get better practice when my excavator is back up and running had a track motor go on me.

Right on. Ahh man, been there. My 4200xl arrived with both gearheads crushed up. Still not sure on the story behind that.

Ya I think mine is similar it won't even move the track on that side. It's at my lhs he's gonna contact then and fix it up. Also have one ram leaking gotta fix also. But I do enjoy that machine

Yup, real fun machine at the price point. Nice your LHS will do that for you. Think if I showed up with my 4200 at the LHS they'd have the deer in headlights look. 4200 is fairly easy to work on considering the size and room to work with. My track motors arrived looking like this and a vid of what was happening.
