which is the one to convert I have both


the Tonka has a more robust chassis but the scale is awful
the newbrite is better scale but week chassis

I've converted a newbright and agree the plastic is weaker than bruder or tonka but as of yet, has not caused a problem. the original plastic track rollers didn't last long though.youll need to upgrade the rollers and idlers on the newbright if that's what you chose to build.
The scale and detail is better on the newbright in my opinion and lots of room, easy to work with.

I agree on the detail but the plastic is really weak

If the plastic is too weak, then you could replace the parts that take wear with metal parts.
