Default Cotton Trk

This trk is called a module trk becasue of the bales of cotton it haules. It simply has a chain bed that is either hydraulically drive or mechanically driven. This is my version. I made the air tank and modified the lift cylinders.

Looks great Rob! It's interesting that you choose a pneumatic system for your lift cylinders. I can't get the video to load, but I know pneumatics are kind of spongy under heavy loads. I imagine cotton isn't to heavy though! I am sure the pneumatic systems are cheaper then hydraulics. Are those Robart cylinders?

A traditional module may weigh up to 6,000lbs.

My module weighs about 1/2 lb. I built an actual miniature module, but it was too heavy for the air cylinders and for the chain bed to operate. I instead made an open styrofoam square and covered it with cotton and added more cotton to the inside as needed.

The cylinders are from http://www.sierragiant.com/ I had to modify them to the correct length. I really wanted hydraulics, but for this project, it would not have been economically sound. Down side to the air is that is that it is either up or down.

Wow, fantastic looking truck. I was actually just watching a tv show today where they showed a truck very similar to this and how they load/unload cotton bales. I was amazed at how heavy the stuff is when it is compacted the way it is. Where did you get those headlights for the truck? I am in love with the way they look. Cotton king should be your username because of this truck. This was a term used in the old days to refer to when cotton was the end all be all of southern American industry. Anyways... keep up the great work! I will continue to look forward to your builds.

Dan

Thank you all for the compliments.

Dan, those lights are from pmd and you are right, cotton used to be king around here, but not anymore. Many of the gins have closed their doors and others are struggling.
